Hillingdon reminder

Post by Sam Gordon » Fri Mar 24, 2006 8:26 pm

Where is Hillingdon again?

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x ... &ay=180161

Best approach is by car from the M4. Head North on Junction 3 towards Southall, go straight over the first roundabout and then leave on the exit road up to the second roundabout. Take the right hand exit towards Southall on the A4020, moving over to the right-hand lane in order to take the first right into Springfield Road (It's the turning just after the large MFI warehouse and Wickes store).

If you are heading on down via pubic transport, then take the overground to Southall station and pick up either the 207 or 427 down the Uxbridge Road to Springfield Road:

The entrance to the cycle track is on the right before the turning point at the end of the straight section of road. It is rather inconspicuous, but is to the left of the Technicolour club and sportsground:

Parking is at the far end:

And gives direct access to the track:

Slalom slope is image centre.

Overflow parking is in the park area a little further on from the track entrance and is open UNTIL 5:00pm. After this time it is locked!

Toilets are located by this parking area and are also SHUT AT 5:00pm:

Hut lowdown: bring your Thermos and dry teabag.

"...there are toilets at the front of the building. There are changing rooms, but no showers. There is plenty of off road parking between the changing rooms/toilets and track itself. There are kitchen facilites, tea urn, microwave, with mugs in cupboards under the counters. You will have access to them all, but please clean up the kitchen and main room after you."

Nearest food supplies are from a small store at the far end of Springfield Road, over the dual carriageway. Alternatively there is a Burger King at the next road down towards Southall by the Retail Park:

Mmmm. Onion rings.

The approach to Southall after Spingfield Road is typically jammed with traffic, so the best exit is once again the M4 route. Best place for post race rendez-vous might be the regular slalomer haunt of the Queen's Arms in Kensington http://www.fluidfoundation.com/venueDet ... arRef=1946, but this is open to change.

Laters,

Octane Sport and CCR present an informal slalom bash at Hillingdon Cycle Track:

If you haven't tried slalom before, then now's the time to give that urban surfing thang a whirl.

This event is an introduction to slalom for folks who thought that most pro comp sl racing appears all a bit too wiggly, for those don't have a slalom board in their quiver but want a taster, and for those guys who remember that it was something they used to do 'back in the day...'

...and if you know what it's about, then Hillingdon should shake of those winter webs and get you in the mood for a summer of fast carving competition.

And where on Earth is it???

The Hillingdon Cycle Circuit is a purpose-designed road race circuit 6m wide and 1469m long (shortest route) situated in Springfield Road, Hayes Middlesex, parallel to the A312 Hayes By-Pass which links Junction 3 on the M4 Motorway and the A40/M40.

Smooth as feck!

The afternoon should start with a single lane GS (widely spaced) to get the legs working, and progress to a parallel hybrid (6-8ft spacing); all against the clock. If time/ weather allows then there will also be a cyber slalom course (fixed straight) http://www.ncdsa.com/cyber_slalom.asp to test yourself and compare times against continental rivals.

Octane Sport will be offering up test boards so that you can try before you buy.

Sign up is on the day with entry at £5.00.
Parking is free at the site.
Nearest station is Southall. Damn fine curry pies!
