Not definitive for the moment about Friday but perhaps it's better to arrive Thursday evening more than Friday evening (even if my boss doesn't agree a lot)

In this case my biggest concern is about the end of the contest:
does it make sense book some flights on sunday evening around at 19:20 from Hannover Airport (HAJ)?
I don't know how far is this airport? I suppose the Expo area is well deserved but will we find a way to go easily there?
We have to try to be there at 18:20 I suppose! Is it too early??

( We can find good fares from Paris but there's only one flight at the end of the day. )

Yes it's a good thing, I prefer 2 days competitions, so we can stay one more day with the family and save one hotel night fees' !

I could even take the night train thursday night, arrive friday morning and make it to the expo area.... sounds cool !

Somehow I'm glad I haven't booked my flight yet.

Some people like to book asap (as soon as the the dates are announced) and have take off from work/school, so if you change your program like one or two months after you annouced the dates there might be people that already have booked their flights and asked for application for leave.

So I hope this is roughly the definitive schedule and I can book my flight in the next couple of days without worries.

see you there

rough??

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Fri Mar 09, 2007 3:58 pm

o.k. rough schedule, but it´s really rough.
our giant will be in sarstedt, this is not the expo area.
the expo summer party is planned on saturday and sunday.
for that, it sounds best to me friday the giant in sarstedt and saturday and sunday on the expo area. but.... it´s a public road closed on friday and it´s not a good time to come to watch for the people in sarstedt. friday is a working day for most of us. how many skaters will be there?

so it looks better this way.
friday morning we build the race track
training starts at 3 p.m.
pool session at 8 p.m.
get together at the hotel bar at 10 p.m.

saturday 9 a.m. training
11 a.m. race start tight, special
8 p.m. race stop
expo party / pool session

sunday
8 a.m. training giant in sarstedt
10 a.m. giant slalom (two runs each, best time count)
12:00 break, going back to the expo area
1:30 p.m. rest of the special/ tight race
4 p.m. price ceremony

pics will follow. i wait for blue sky to make the pics (next week for sure)

Accomodation Hannover

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:51 pm

The Name of our Race website is easy to remember.
http://www.skateboardworldcup.com

but i´m sorry. there is no money to work on that site at the moment.
everybody is welcome to race in hannover.
if we actualise the website, there will be an online registration.
if not, just come to hannover. it´s easy like every year.

for your accomodation we talk with our hotel partner. skaters from the last year know our official race hotel. it´s 3 minutes pushing from the race track. very nice rooms and cheap.
cheapest rate is the special rate by booking over there own system.

check this link
http://www.mercure.com/mercure/fichehot ... otel.shtml

if you pay and reserve with credit card, you pay 35.- euros for one night in a double room.
single room is the same rate. everything else is more expansive. if there are problems with booking this rate, please let me know.
the name of the hotel manager, i speak with is Prodromos Hatzifotiou
the phone number of the hotel is +49 (0)511 / 87 57 30

see you there. dete

Hi, I booked my train, expected arrival on Friday, June 1 Hannover Hbf: around 14:30-15 (first find a cheap hotel, buy some drinks, than to the slalom scene in the Expo 2000)
I leave at about 6 pm on Sunday, 3rd.
At what distance are the "tight cones"? 2m c-t-c? Is it on smooth asphalt?
Is there an alternative programme in case of rain? (like high jump, barrel jump?)

CU!

Hey Detlef!
I friend of me and me we decided to sign in for your contest in hannover. We will arrive at 1.6.07 23 o'clock on the airport. So we start at 2.6 and 2. 6...but where should we stay ? Is there a cheap racer place or something close to the contest area?

Thanks

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Wed Feb 14, 2007 5:47 pm

what can i say?

thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

the issa makes there decision. after two years with a prime status,
we turned up to the major race in europe

I hope we will see many racers from america and from whole europe in this time.
to all the skaters who never compete in hannover. please read the topics about hannover,
or ask skaters who where there. ask dan gesmer, jani söderhall or claude regnier.
ask paul price, maurus strobel or ramon.

or ask me. we work hard on our best race ever.

I passed your e-mail address and message on to Benny. I asked him to place some info on the forum.

By the way, I just got his reply: the date (June 21) still has to be confirmed because of permits by the City Council. (I guess they won't mind, as there's also a red light district and plenty "coffee"shops).

UPDATE: CANCELLED!

There's also gonna be a slalom contest in Amsterdam, too, on June 23-(DATE AND PLACE TO BE CONFIRMED!). The Dutch Skateboard Federation posts all information on http://www.skateboardfederatie.nl/agenda.htm (all skateboard disciplines, but little about slalom).
I've sent all of them information about this forum.

Hans-Lucas,

It's really nice to hear that you're coming to both Hannover and Paris. In the history of European slalom skateboarding there have been very, if any at all, Dutch and/or Belgian slalomers in major events.

Looking forward to meet you!

Hi,
I'll be there to film and maybe to train a little, no matter what status it will be, but only if the final date is on 1 - 3 June; one week later I have to work...

I know of at least one other Dutch guy who will join the contest (and Paris as well!).

Contest Sanction

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Wed Jan 24, 2007 1:12 pm

Hello Pat,

you are right. i didn´t fill out the application for the issa contest sanction.
by the way. thank you for this application form. for me it´s a good way to ask for
a status. at the moment i don´t know, who will decide for the status?
last year, we post our event in this forum and all skaters who are interested
make the decision.
now, with the application form we can describe our Event and use some criteria
to allocate statuses to the candidates.
for me, i didn´t fill out the application form yet, because i wait for a few important
decisions for our event. next week i know more about the expo summer party, where we want to be part of.

by the way. last year we used the domain http://www.skateboardworldcup.com
to show skaters, what´s going on in the slalom world.
everybody can use this domain to attract interested skaters for there event.
if you have your own website for your event, send me your webadress and we will link to your site. if you don´t have a website, we will link to your post in this forum.
check http://www.skateboardworldcup.com to see what i mean

Nobody has been turned down, because nobody has applied.

Contest organizers need to apply for an ISSA contest sanction before they can be turned down.

The application is here: viewtopic.php?t=4657

As far as I know, there have been no applications submitted yet for any European contests.

i´m not dicouraged

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Tue Jan 23, 2007 10:22 am

hey, ho, my lovely little slalombuddys. don´t worry.
i´m not discouraged if i didn´t get a main status.
all what i did, was asking for a main status.

the work and the plans for our race will be the same.
we work on the quality of our courses, we try to find local sponsors.
in the last two years, we had a lot of competitors from eight countrys.
last year it was a pleasure for me to welcome skaters from canada.
this year i´m sure we are ready to welcome the best skaters from all over the world.

we are ready now to present a high class slalom event.
that´s why we asked for a main status.
personally i think, paris don´t need the main status, because everybody knows the
quality of the paris race. i go to paris, because it´s paris.
i think a main status will help hannover, to bring skaters to this competition that are interested in the status because of the points they can get.
if this is to revolutionary, then we will organize a prime race again.

as dominik said:
Well, what can I say? I'm just a dumb young guy, who loves to race with his skateboard, right?
And yes, you are right. I love it. Since I got into this, I made many friends, all over here and among the big pond and I am so thankful for that.
Togehter we feel pleasure and pain.
for me it´s the same, just change dumb young guy to dumb old guy

in general i think the potential of a race should be recognized and then given the approprriate status.
but that won't work either.
on the other side i see the two biggest events(in ranking) based in one country.
is that how it works?
just some food for thought!
the main problem i see with that issa thing going on is that there is always one guy replying to criticism and the rest of the "team" is absent.
always the same reaction about things that need to be decided.
questions coming up are:who decides what?
or even better:why hasn't that all been done in advance?

the whole deal is existent for over a year and the issa didn't get their act together yet.

and all of the issa have to live with that criticism, because it's true.
if you want to enforce regulations on any kind of structure you have to have at least the paperwork ready in order to gain credibility.

i see this far from being acceptable in any way.

besides that i always ask myself this:
when i organize a race f.e. and i invest huge amounts of time and money in that venture i get my race "sanctioned" by the issa.
where are my benefits in this?
is the issa flowing money or bringing sponsors to my contest?
will it help me to market my contest?

both questions can be answered with a clear "NO".

so,if you want people to accept you and your body, then you have to work with people and not the other way around.

creating such a body is not only about posting on a site from time to time.continuing conversations on the phone ,at least conference calls should be done in order to make this look at least a bit professional.

how else do you think the vast majority will embrace the issa and the package it has to offer?

i refused to be part of this from day one, because i know how much work is involved.maybe some of the members missed that point.

it's a post here or there and somebody is deciding something that has been decided by the issa(when, where, how, and why).

you have to live with that short essay of criticism, because it reflects the truth.

I think the Cologne - D'dorf area will support Dete even if its main or not !
It would be great to see some skaters from overseas and like Sven said, the EXPO Fest garantees lots of spectators and events beside the race.

Don't you read that Corky is writing that there's a non official rule and it has to be discuss?? It's an indication, nothing is set into concrete for the moment!
So dry your tears and now tell us what are you crying for?
Fast accusations and judgments are just making things worse - they are enemies of collaboration and dialog.

But there's another thing to point... if you're so aware of points and statuses: are 3 main enough for Europe?
Russia got a main, OK, it could interest euros
but I'm surprised to see that the two last main races in our "zone" (East Atlantic) are in Australia and Asia!!
These two will probably be lost again this year and anyway, should it be really considered in the same zone??

4 US + 1 Canada + 1 SouthAmerica (lost probably) - seems a coherent zone even if 5 is perhaps not enough for North America too!!!

Think also that if we do everything to welcome people from everywhere to let them get your precious points probably 3 is not enough..Of course, in any case I want to discourage racers from other continents to come and race in Europe.
I'm just noting that during last years, US races didn't care much about kind of things we are trying to do: easy Euro tour for non-European.
Hope 2007 will be different with easy America's tour for non-American!

The central question with that weekend is simply:

Well, what can I say? I'm just a dumb young guy, who loves to race with his skateboard, right?
And yes, you are right. I love it. Since I got into this, I made many friends, all over here and among the big pond and I am so thankful for that.
Togehter we feel pleasure and pain.

On the other hand, I feel very disappointed. Don't take me on every word, but my words should't be taken lightly at the same time. I hope it's not only me, who can see that some, who live among us in this small community, are seeking themselves to be above the other, to create something that's separating us within the community. No words need to be spoken to get what they want, if you are involved, and everyone else just has to step back, after already stepping back once. Why does Paris always get a Main ( I heard it is officially Major???) and after all improvements since slalomskateboarding came back to life again, after all... How is a race like Grenoble even possible? Look at the time, look at the map, look on what to expect. Think about earlier discussions, and look who is involved. If you want to try to be objective in this case, and if you cannot have both races rated as main, I think Paris would have to step back this time, which I doubt. So wouldn't the euros 2007 be held on a soft and flat ground. But changes certainly won't happen, and why? Tja, well, I'm just a potlovin' goof, but even I can see that! (And I already pointed it out)

I am one North American that plans on competing in both PWCS & HWCS events this year.
That's some really good news, but sorry, it can't help me (personly) being dissapoited of some peoples sellfishness and none exsisting imagination of fairness....,

from my point the main advantage in dete`s concept is, that the SLALOM WORLDCUP is just a small part of the big EXPO SUMMERPARTY. i`m not talking about 2006 here okay.

everyone who was there in 2005 knows what i mean with spectators. i mean the weather was not that perfect. but on sunday we had spectators (and they didn`t come cause they wanted to see slalom skateboarding) in two rows along the whole race track. they were yelling and they were stoked to see something, they have not seen before.

i mean when i read the visions of some people here about bringing the whole slalom stuff to a bigger level and showing the masses what conehunting is, HANNOVER is the place for germany.
just some thoughts of a little shabby berlin wall city amateur ...

Statuses

Post by Claude Regnier » Mon Jan 22, 2007 4:19 pm

Donald, Corky's thoughts below are unofficial as he states.
About statuses there have been an unofficial rule in the World Rankings before to spread out statuses over the season and geographically. I.e. having two Main statuses one weekend after the other has not been allowed. The European coordinators for 2007 will look it over but I'm just telling what has been the main idea before.
Many of us on the BOD and also the members themselves feel that some Major events held back to back are great and will benefit everyone. Don't forget when the rankings and statuses we're being worked on it was hard to imagine 6, 8 or even 10 possible big events in a year or more.

All of a sudden we have the potential to run big events 15 to 20 times (worldwide) per year. Things have changed along with some of the rulings and decisions from before.

I am one North American that plans on competing in both PWCS & HWCS events this year.

the problem the issa will create for themselves here(whoever that is and whoever decides what and for which reason)is,that organizers will get discouraged in holding contests on a longer base.
hannover has all the potential(when combined to the expo festivities) to rival any other european contest.on surface quality hannover is already top notch.
corky, your argument has a broken leg, where are the other 2 mains then.ok you got grenoble, but which other contest gets the main then?
i wanna see that.
frustrating also for our american friends who make the long travel only to fall victim to bureaucracy or sole minded thoughts?

If Hannover doesn't get main just because it's too close to Paris that would be very dissapointing for a lot of people, especially all the people from America or Canada that will come over to Europe expecting two big competitions. Every year, I have to hear Fred go on about how cool this competition was, bigger and better each year, and now that it's only a week a way from Paris and there will be even more Americans than before, it still won't get a main status?!
Very strange indeed...

so as it is,hannover doesn't get a main?
who decides that?
where are the other potential mains in europe that can rival hannover right now?
i only see flatland grenoble a´nd that's it.
is that how the efforts of an organizer are honored?

maybe next time hannover should not be so close to paris?
then no americans would join the races.
did you guys consider that fact too?

what a strange world...

I met Detlef in Frankfurt at a skateboard expo yesterday. (I also met Heiko there by the way. And YoYo Schultz too.)

About statuses there have been an unofficial rule in the World Rankings before to spread out statuses over the season and geographically. I.e. having two Main statuses one weekend after the other has not been allowed. The European coordinators for 2007 will look it over but I'm just telling what has been the main idea before.

As Claude said, all event organizers for 2007 should have a look at this document

http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/ISSA/ ... cation.doc

But maybe Paris only wants a Prime status this year ;-)

takes time

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Fri Jan 19, 2007 1:34 pm

i asked for a main status and explained, why i want to have one. it´s early in the season, so i think it takes some time. at the moment there are not so many requests for statuses. for me it´s o.k. if we wait a few more weeks.
we work on our event in hannover. in afew days, we wil post some pics from the new giant course. we find a steep hill close to the expo area.
in the american section i find some application forms for race organizers. do we have the same for europe this year? who makes the decision this year? the skate community or some representatives of the issa?
