that seems to be a pretty long and static course ;)

Good luck with the race and the racing, wish I could be there...

The same course will be used by pros AND ams, due to time scales, but rest assured it will be more pro than am, and more tight than loose. The Brits have a reputation for fast, tight and steep.

I would rather ams experienced a pro course and either went slower or dq'd than have a very easy course. The alterative is an easier course that the pros wont find a challenge. I am convinced it is better to push the Ams into improving their game.

Thios should give the ams a chance to compare directly their times with pros, and weed out the sandbaggers!!!

The course will be set by a committee....but I will make sure their feet are chained together so they can't put the cones too far apart.

I have jus sent this out to those who have signed up on the NCDSA site, but its relevant for those whomay not have entered yet, or are coming and not competing.

This will probably be the last update before the Cadwell race, sent to all those who have signed in to the NCDSA sign up page.If you know anyone who is coming who has not signed up, please encourage them to do so and forward this email to them, just so we have a good idea of who to expect and approximate numbers. If you have signed up but cant now come, shame, see you next year!

Saturday Night
We will be meeting at the Royal Oak (Splash) from 7.30pm
The Royal Oak Inn
Watery Lane
Little Cawthorpe
Louth
Lincolnshire
LN11 8LZ http://www.royaloaksplash.co.uk/

Please find attatched the UKGSA waiver, if you want to print it out and bring it along signed it will save you a little time. We are still encouraging people to pay beforehand 15 pounds via paypal to: ukssa01@gmail.com

On race day you will need to go to the main sign in tent, from 8.am, this will be away from the slalom hills, together with the downhillers and soapbox racers. Mingle!

Make your way over to the slalom hill for practice. GS is first, to allow a bit of flexibility on scheduling, we have some racers arriving on the Hull ferry, if they should arrive late we want to be able to fit them in. Pracice should start at 9.30. Race runs will start after a suitable time.

Rules
Helmets MUST be worn at all times when skating. Please respect this rule.
GS will be timed as single runs. After you are told you may go, YOU will break the beam to start the clock. We will have a radar speed trap for a seperate prize for fastest recorded speed at that point.

Dual will be single start, seperate finish. When the final start beep sounds BOTH clocks start. We will have a false start indicator. The start beep will be a random sound within a 5 second window. If you cross the start line before the final beep it will indicate a false start and alsoprevent that final beep from sounding. You will be alerted to a false start by a seperate alarm sound.

As we shall be using beams, do not pass through them unless you are racing, and also do not cross them twice after you finish or they will re-set the clocks and your time may not be recorded. Look out for other people crossing the gates, and dont pass through your rivals gates!!!

All rules follow the ISSA rules as far as possible. Disputes need to be reported to the judges as soon as possible where a decision will be made.

Prizes:
GS Pro, 1st 100 euros, 2nd 60 Euros, 3rd 40 euros, 4th entry fee returned
Dual Pro, as above

The other races will share the schwag pool of prizes.

Finally, drive carefully, safe trips everyone and see you there!!

Now don't go getting your knickers in a twist Don, its the British way to talk about the weather, its what we do...I don't think there has been any more talk about the weather for this event than there was for the Andover demo, Bish Bash OR Wasteland. And you know what? At the end of the day we'll all do what we always do...turn up and skate!
We all know how changeable British weather is, and even when they say 'no chance' we still turn up and even then there is usually a window when we can skate.
I told Michael a long time ago when he was first worried about putting this race on that it is the one aspect you cannot control, so you organise everything else and let the competitors take some responsibility for their actions.

Now the greatest gathering ever of skaters in the Uk will be a blast to be at, whatever happens...See you there!

Martin.

ps.David, most Southerners think the North starts at Watford anyway - looking forward to seeing you again, its been at least 4 years!!!!

Encountered similar at Statesville, Martin. At least that's my excuse! Hannover 2006 was fast in setting up and then had an uphill breeze the following day. Long courses are always going to have some sort condition-affected result. However the good guys always seem to come out on top.
But Morro was exceptional.

Thanks for letting me know, Fred.

Any news from that flake, Vinzzz? Can he not handle steep, wet GS?

As for cost? I bought the van especially. Even had the steering wheel transferred to the left just to make you guys feel at home.
And set fire to it on the outskirts of the city.

I'm happy to say we have some superb long sleeve T shirts (and Hoodies), printed in yelow/gold on offer for Cadwell.
The ONLY way to be SURE we have your size is to pre-order at: http://octanesport.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=cadwellT

The Ts cost £11 or 14€ , the Hoodies are £18 or 24€ . Tell us what size you want on checkout. small through to xxxl.

All profits go to the UKSSA, the slalom organisation for the UK.

You must do this by Sunday evening to be sure that we have your T or Hoodie waiting for you on Sunday at Cadwell.

We will have extras on the day, but may not have every size on the day. It helps us a LOT if you pre-order.

One thing, when you checkout on the website, put the coupon code 'CADT' to set the shipping to zero. If you want the T shirts and your not coming, check out as normal, and we will post them the day after the race. You DONT need to be at the race to get a T! In fact the more Ts we sell the better it is for the UKSSA, slalom and the entire world.....

We will be emailing out another update email to those that have signed upearly next week, but in the meantime I hope your looking forward to the race as much as I am!

Yes. Tell your Boss that Carsten.

Just dont show him a picture of Pelle!

Seriously Carsten , there will be quite a few races this year in England, mostly in the south nearer London or on the coast. You will just have to come to one of those. Cadwell is an excellent opportunity for the UK slalom scene to have everything in place ready for a great years racing. Here and in Europe...(and elsewhere!)

Long range forecasts are never very accurate. 3 days is considered long.

Last year we had dry weather, with a frost first thing, but we were racing in shorts. The area tonight where the race is is having a LOT of rain...you could take the view that it has to stop sometime!!!???

The weather forecast for the next week is pretty bad, but I cannot say what the weather will be like on the Sunday yet.

Bear in mind it is only a 1 day race. However, the event is part of a bigger set of events, with soapbox, downhill and longboard/slide sessions going on, where weather or dampness isnt a problem so much. And there will be a lot of familiar faces there.

Good on you Fred, as we would LOVE to see you at Cadwell.

When the Brits race in Europe, which they often do, getting to races is often a problem. Leaving after work on a Friday means a very late arrival into foreign cities, and if a race drags on a Sunday we often have to leave before the awards and celebrations. And I assure you we'd rather stay!

I totally understand your situation.

By spending Sunday night in London you can enjoy the competition and relax, which is all part of the fun of a trip.

Fred, getting the early train out is quite fun. Its a two hour journey as you zoom across Europe as the sun rises.

For Paris the last few years I have gone via Bruxelles, breakfast at home, breakfast on the train, breakfast in Bruxelles, lunch in Bruxellles, dinner on the train to Paris, dinner in Paris with Sam and the gang as they get the train after work.

Used to do loads of Monday AM flights to work a full day in Rotterdam or Bruxelles. Welcome to Euro glam!!!!!

We have tended to dash back from Paris after races, and trust me, its better not to worry and leave at your leisure.

Transit

Post by Sam Gordon » Mon Jan 21, 2008 12:39 am

Hello Fred,

That's really a question for race organiser Michael Stride. He'll be in touch with Cadwell to find out the opening and closing times for track usage.

I believe that the last Eurostar trains might be 20:05 & 20:35 from London St Pancras which is right next door to Kings Cross (indeed the station is often referred to as Kings Cross St Pancras).

Best for you would be to bus on the upward journey and then catch a lift to either Boston or Peterborough from an early race leaver, catching a train into into Kings Cross.

Boston is about 25 miles South of Cadwell:

Boston to London Kings Cross
Outward journey: Sunday 3 February 2008

Depart 14:43 16:45
Arrive 16:50 18:55
Changes 1 1
Duration 2:07 2:10

Peterborough is about 65 miles South of Cadwell:

Peterborough to London Kings Cross
Outward journey: Sunday 3 February 2008

Depart 16:19 16:45 16:51 17:02 17:18
Arrive 17:17 18:02 17:49 17:55 18:15
Changes 0 0 0 0 0
Duration 0:58 1:17 0:58 0:53 0:57

Calling all cars!
Is there any one driving back from Cadwell around 4:00pm that might be able to give Fred a lift to Boston on the route South?

Another option might be to crash at my place on Sunday night and then catch the early train (07:30-10:56 #02h26m) back to Paris.

We are restricted on time because the Official Cadwell track Marshals have a break that means we cannot start the afternoons race until 1pm.

Also, allow for the 1/2 hour reccomended check in time at St Pancreas for Eurostar. They are quite strict, having been close to the wire many many times on trips to Bruxelles and after leaving the Paris race, dashing through streets with bags from grid locked taxis.

Even if you find a train form say, Grantham you must see if works are planned (I can help you find out).

I would allow at LEAST 3 hours for Cadwell to St Pancreas. Blimey, I reckon 4 and a half to be sure. Even if you got a train you would need to be at Grantham for 5pm, and thats an hour from Cadwell.

The lighting up time for Cadwell is approx 5 so daylight wont be a factor of an early finish I'm afraid.

Dont know what to say Fred.

What you could do is get a travelodge hotel nr ST PANCRAS for 50 quid and get the first train in the Morning. Would get you to PAris for 9 am.

Bus boys

Post by Sam Gordon » Sun Jan 20, 2008 9:19 pm

If you are heading to Cadwell from London and have requested a place on the bus, then here's the lowdown:

Rental is via Europcar at Putney Bridge Tube Station. We have reserved a 15 seater LDV van. This should cover at least half as many skaters plus kit.

Rendez-vous will be (mid-day 12:00 noon) on Saturday 2nd February either in the Europcar office or in the cafe next door (Cafe Nunu). The Office is next to the station under the arch.

Image Image Image
Come out of the station, turn left (right in picture) and the cafe is the lime-green-fronted with-blue-awning establishment straight ahead.
Just beyond it, under the arch, is the Europcar office.

Image Image Image
The office shuts promptly at 1pm so it's important to be there in good time, otherwise we have to tunnel out of the station compound in a stolen vehicle having outrun the dogs.

Underneath the railway.
Can you get any more 'wrong side of the tracks?'

ramps

Post by Michael Stride » Tue Jan 15, 2008 5:21 pm

Ive been down to the far West, to see the ramps courtesy of Len 'the Luge' Stocker....In between making bits for cars, vans, bikes and the odd Spitfire he's working on our ramps. I just need to see that they were heading along the right way and Len doesnt dissapoint.<br><br>Right, story time:<br><br>The down slopes are aluminium, wide enough for a good push from the gate. Here is a sheet next to the folding machine.<br><img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/ ... r><br>Each base rests on a ladder of aluminium, folded for added strength, and 'deep' enough for sponsors logos on the sides. To describe how stiff these were is hard, no flex, but one person can lift the entire slope.<br><img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/ ... '><br><img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/ ... br><br>The base of the slope is nice and gentle, and will have replaceable lips , here is the rough design.<br><img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/ ... br><br>The platforms will be along the lines of this, these are the trolleys Len uses to shift metal around the stores, and not a million miles from what we need. We tested differnt bars for grippage, and checked the gates were wide enough to allow a good pull. Again, these trolleys cope with a hell of a lot of weight and no amount of pulling up the poles could make it twist or bend.<br><br>The platform will be constructed from STAINLESS steel!!! which makes for easy maintenance, and will look good and last a long time. The surface will be marine ply, with a backboard. Remneber, this is a triolley, NOT the final ramp Ok!!<br><img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/ ... <br>Lastly, we do need an easy way onto the ramp dont we:<br><img src='http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/ ... g'><br><br>

It's a shame that you can't make it, Spike. Slalom is a good blast and Cadwell is a great hill for a quick GS burn.
Hope the ligaments heal soon. Maybe we'll catch you racing on the continent later in the year if not earlier!

Cadwell transit

Post by Sam Gordon » Wed Jan 09, 2008 11:47 pm

Hey Pelle, it's great to see that you guys are sorted for transport. Stansted airport is en route to Cadwell, so you've taken the sensible option. I have reserved a dodgy van in case of emergency pickup!

I'll be staying at the Cadwell Saturday evening meet-up place/ supper venue which is the: http://www.royaloaksplash.co.uk/ .Image
It might be already booked up which is why the hostel could be a good cheap option.

Otherwise it might be best to take a look at the list of Bed & Breakfast accommodation on the race website http://www.octanesport.co.uk/cadwell.html . The Green Man, The Black Horse and The White Hart all sound like pubs, so could be promising. All the B&Bs are all pretty close to the track and should be reasonably priced.

Don't hesitate to let us know what you decide, Pelle.

On the accommodation front, there are plenty featured on the website http://www.octanesport.co.uk/cadwell.html , but one that might be worth considering that will be cheap and nearby is the youth hostel called Woody's Top. Maybe book as a group if you are coming as a Gang from abroad. It might be best to reserve now for the night of Saturday 2nd of February before all of the English take the beds:

The area is not known for tourism, so it is advisable to grab what accommodation is available as soon as you can!

I asked Santa for a snowskate but I didn't get one, but perhaps next year. Can you wait until then Ramón? I really would love to go, I remember when I had a life and did such things.

About the naming, perhaps its?

Damn Pelle, you are planning this Pro-move well in advance. Looks like your finger-boards are already in production:

On the transport matter, Stansted is half-way to Cadwell, so it might be best to either hire a car and head up from there in order to save quite a few extra hours travel, or we can try to arrange to have a car driver pick you up en route. Will you be on your own or will there be other viking invaders with you?

By the way, thanks for your offer, when do you leave Switzerland?

We should go Snowboarding before you leave...

So then its not really a 'Pro model' but rather a 'Am model'. Which is probably pretty rare! :-D

That sounds good.
You get a day in London.

I think Sam and a few others will all work out what to do with pickups as we get more details.

Most people will be travelling up Saturday afternoon/evening. Some may leave VERY early Sunday morning.

But it will be GREAT to see everyone!!!!!

I think you may just need to wait a short while at the airport for a ride, and hopefully any others you know going that route can aim for that sort of time.

The ride to Cadwell would take approx 2.5hrs, and a journey into London would take 1.5hrs 'ish'.

What time are you going back? That might need to be organised too.

Oh, yeah, you may be in the official programme Pelle....one for the album
wow the official programme... I just love that! (smile) going back monday 4 at 17.40

Transport to london

Post by Sam Gordon » Fri Jan 04, 2008 7:10 pm

Hey Pelle,

At what airport will you arrive and at what time on which day? Both Heathrow and Gatwick run regular express trains into central London, as does Stansted.

https://www.gatwickexpress.com
https://www.heathrowexpress.com
https://www.stanstedexpress.com

You can then head on via the Underground:

Let us know where and when!
