The final was very close and I won because of my special weapon - I almost never hit a cone (this time I had zero cones in first run and 1 cone in second)!!!

It was a great feel because last time we had a parallel courses in local contests was in 2005 one week before World cup when it was my first competition and I was just a conejudge ( I started skating in the same evening and after a week I had a debut in World cup in Jurmala). Then Janis won everybody and now after less then 4 years it was my turn - GREAT ! ! !

Someone might say that Janis was just recovering from the injury and he is not in a good shame yet,but if you look to my time for World 50-cone record attempt (9.82 - NEW WORLD RECORD!!) - I think it explains why I really deserved this win

Then we had tight slalom (parallel) and in final I won Janis by 0,07sec.!!!
In special slalom Janis was ahead by 0,09sec!

Oh, holy smoke! We always said they guns were going to take over, but it wasn't supposed to happen so fast. Latvias best Am takes out Latvias best pro. That's very cool!

We had a great time yesterday!

In 50-cone record attempt Janis Kuzmins surprisingly showed up and had a great time (9.49) but 8 cones...
In my first attempt I did 9.75 but with 5 cones,in my last attempt - 9.82 and no cones displaced!!! The surface was perfect because the race was held on a route that was made for rollerskaters and runners so there where no oil marks or other rubbish left by cars.
Time was mesured by national mountain skiing professional Dzintars Melvers and his high quality equipment.

Then we had tight slalom (parallel) and in final I won Janis by 0,07sec.!!!
In special slalom Janis was ahead by 0,09sec!

Sj, Baltic cup (PRIME Status) will be the next race in Latvia and it will be held in Jurmala (25km from capital city Riga),Dzintari next to the local skatepark.
The program will be tight,special (both single line) and high jump.
OPEN and junior groups.

World champion 2007 Janis Kuzmins is back in slalom and in good level and Martins Liepins is back, too.
Lienite, Jānis and Gustavs will participate in World cup Grenoble this summer.

Go skateboarding day was very good in Riga. Gustavs Gailitis today during the Riga championships set a new 50-cone record - 9.82!!! In his first attempt he did 9.75 but with 5 cones, in his second attempt clean run and NEW RECORD!!!
It was set on flat, with no wind but on great surface!

In parallel was interesting final Gustavs vs Janis. Gustavs win with small diference 0,07.
In special slalom win Janis Kuzmins, Gustavs was a second and third was Armands Sausins.

We will have:
- World 50-cone record attempt (on flat, predicted wind speed 1-3 mph, distance between cones - 1,6m);
- Tight slalom (with parallel courses in top 8 finals);
- Special slalom;
- 1km lap pumping contest on flat (just for fun);
- High jump;
- ''Game of skate'' for street skaters!!!

This race will be held during the city of Grobina anniversary so we hope to see a lot of spectators and maybe this race will be comeback for Armands Sausins (European championship medalist in 90ties,several times Latvia's best slalomer) who is now equipped with GOG trucks and Latvian made carbon board,willing to regain the number 1 position in Latvia!!!

But the girl - she is a local girl from Policka and as far as I know Martins has got a grilfriend here in Latvia

Janis didn't race. Does anybody have some news about how his knee operation wen't after last season?

Janis now is recovering from the operation but it takes time and if I understood correctly, he will be able to restart skating step by step only in May!
One of the ''young and strong'' Latvian amateurs Martins Liepins is also recovering from the knee operation (he got his injury last year in World cup in Jurmala) but I hope that he will be back in Policka because in 2007 it was his first race ever (first training on a slalom board the night before between beer cans in "Shell'' parking-lot in Poland )

It was a great race despite the cold weather (only +3 degrees and very strong front wind)! As you can see in the results, a few slalomers didn't come (some due to injuries, some due to bad weather, some just haven't woken up yet after their winter sleep )!
We had a lot of fun, unfortunately, we hadn't enough time for hybrid
After the race we had a nice afterparty and all the racers promised to compete also in the next slalom competitions this year!
