always different

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Tue May 22, 2007 5:32 pm

last year we organised a race on the expo site as a part of the expo summer festival. it was cancelled 3 weeks before.
this year we organised a race on the expo site as a part of the expo summer festival and they cancelled the race three days ago.
for this year we find a new location with a steep slope (see pics before)
this place is 5 minutes by car from our mercure hotel.

we decided to move the whole world cup to this place. it´s called sarstedt. they will welcome all skaters and organise food and drinks. we will have a stage after the finish line.

all disciplines will be on a slightly downhill course. tight will be same distance betwenn the cones but in a wave line. special will be spezial, different. giant will be really giant (and 300 meter long) tight and special will be on the same road as the giant but in the lower section.

we where in the local newspaper a few days ago.
for skaters without a car, we will organise a shuttle service from the mercure hotel to the race site.
we are looking forward to organise a good major race. thanks in advance to christoph baumann, he is working on some special trophys and to donald, he will help us with the t-shirts. there will be a little money from carhartt and eastpak.
free food and drinks as last year and a nice pool session in the campo arena on saturday night.
if it will be rainy, we will move on sunday to the expo area. there is a big parking house under the ikea warehouse (but only possible on sunday)

that are the latest news. i will be in paris the whole weekend. feel free to ask me more about the hannover race. hope to see you all next week

the "real" giant

Post by Steve Hinzen » Wed May 23, 2007 12:24 pm

Dete, please tell us more about the giant.

The sign on your photo indicates a 15% slope. How long is this section? How steep is the rest? What maximum speed can be expected? How is the runout? Will Amateurs and Pros race the same course?

Further detailed information would be appriciated, thanks in advance.

giant course

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Wed May 23, 2007 9:34 pm

hey steve,
the giant course is about 300 meters long. first 150 meters are steep, we will set the course very wide so you don´t get too fast. the fastest section will be the last 40 meters of the steep section. after that we pass a road that is flat for 20 meters. no chance to jump off the board here. after this road we enter the tight course. it´s about 6% here and we set the course more technical here (and fast) for about 70 meters. the rest is easy and the runout is flat and long.

maybe we build a special giant ramp for this hill.

Hi there,

I will be leaving for Hannover Friday very early in the morning. Would you have an address for the place where the competition is going to be held at?
Is it near the EXPO? Just give me the name of the street and I can get there. Thank you.

and..
I will be staying at the Formula One hotel. I am driving so I can help you guys with transporting racers to the competion site or anything else, just let me know.
See you all soon.

Yes, were here

Post by Claude Regnier » Wed May 30, 2007 3:54 pm

We made it and Gary and Dave arrived later last night.

Messe/Laatzen 1 seems to be the best and closest stop near the Mercure - Expo site. There is no FREE internet at the Mercure. SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're doing laundry and we are at the internet cafe accross the road.

Dette if you have a chance can you drop us off some cones. There is plenty of space on the Expüo site to run some cones.

It's probably a good time for me to start practicing :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone here.

We are a few french leaving tomorrow evening to fly to Hanover, arrival at HLX airport: 22:50.

I was to share the room with David who finally didn't book as we said as he doesn't know if he will come...
I hope it's still possible to share a room booked for one person, or to book at the same price!

But my real question is: who will be there on friday with a car to go to the indoor skatepark during the day (Detlef said it's free for us)? The wooden bowl is great but you need a car to go there.

Vinzz, why do you need a car to go there? You can easily get there by Strassenbahn....I'll probably join you.

It's not right around the corner; you have to change the Strassenbahn once, takes approximately half an hour or so...we'll see. Otherwise we gather a few people ;-)

Sam, thank you for posting the location of the hotel.
and thank you Carsten for posting the sarstedt location.

Maybe someone can post a map. i´m not firm with that and no time to post.
i post the way from the hotel. it´s easy in sarstedt. just ask for the Kipphut (the only hill in sarstedt)

now working.

Which S-Bahn line do you take to which stop? Shouldn't be hard info for the organizers to post but one hell of a pain to figure out on this end. That hotel website doesn't give very good instructions.

s- bahn to the world cup

Post by Detlef Rehbock » Thu May 31, 2007 1:16 pm

i post it few days before.
you can go from the airport to the hotel with the s-bahn directly.
the stop is messe hannover.

from city or mainstation or whatever take the underground number 1 to sarstedt.
the station of the hotels is called
Laatzen Bahnhof / Eichstraße

from there you go to the last station of the number 1, called sarstedt.

you will find more informations under

CAN ANYONE HELP CLINGFILM? (Chris Linford)

Post by Martin Drayton » Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:58 am

Just read this on another site (seems he doesn't know about this forum):
On 5/31/2007 clingfilm wrote in from United Kingdom (80.43.xxx.xxx)
What a nightmare.
4 hour plus drive to the airport and they closed the gate.
I am now booked on Ryan air at 6.45am to Duseldorf, however you spell it (its 2 am already)

If anyone know where the event is please phone the hotel for me and leave details.
+49 (0)511 / 87 57 30

Hopefully they have kept my room and easyjet have kept my return flight from Bremen. This could not get more complex.

IF ANYONE HAS A NUMBER FOR SKATERS OUT THERE ALREADY PLEASE CONTACT THEM. I should reach the hotel by midday or I give up.

Having a bad day, hopefully it can get better.

I think if the Expo festival takes place, then make it on the expo area because a lot of those Sarsteder people might come also to the race site in Hannover to watch again. (Makes it "Expo visitors + Sarstedter = even more spectators" ;-))

hehe I like sarsedt girls...

Sarsedt was actually a really nice place to race. I myself have worked to bring slalom events to suburban venues and the people really do get into it.

One of the people I met was Georg. He's 19 and a street skater who lives two streets over from the race hill. He came out all weekend to pick up cones. He told me he was the only skater in Sarsedt and how incredibly stoked he was to see all of us- he could feel the positive vibes. He was really stoked and wanted to try slalom himself. So when I won an AXE for third place in TS I gave it to him.

I remember myself in Boston on July 4th 2003 picking up cones at John Gilmour's race. After watching him and Vlad race head to head TS I decided I wanted to do slalom... four years later from my point of view (on the amatuer podium sometimes) I couldn't think of a better use than to give him that board.

He's going to order stuff from Heiko's webshop this week and at next year's Hannover WC, there will be at least one Sarsedt local, maybe more.
