Our parisian skatepark is nearly finished
Look at a few pictures I took yesterday (and a few minutes skate all alone in the bowl!!!)
http://www.riderz.net/galerie-simple/?s ... _finitions

We were waiting for so long... Me and David went to many meetings with other parisian associations to give our points on this park (yes there is a roof!!!)

Now we can really expect a nice park-slalom/death-race during the Trocadéro Grand Prix!!!

Trocadero Grand Prix 2008
(Paris Slalom World Cup)

This race scheduled for May 8-12 will be a 3-5 day event. Three days (Sat-Sun-Mon) for the pure slalom events (tight, special and hybrid - all dual races).

Friday is for a bonus event: Park slalom at the newly built skatepark "EGP18".
We are currently making plans for the Thursday, but they're not settled yet.

With this planning we hope we're making the best out of the weekend, both in creating a long-fun-skate-event-weekend but also making it short enough for those that have families that can't stand you being away for too long. The main events are on three consecutive days. Thursday and Friday are bonus days.

As I'm not a frequent visitor to NCDSA (and I never visit the 'Fish), so your questions will be more quickly answered here at slalomskateboarder. Vincent will cover French language questions on www.Riderz.net.

Oh, I didn't mention the prize money (most of it for the three main slalom events):

>>>>>> EUR 5000 (USD 7250)!!! <<<<<<<

Welcome!

Jani, I thank you for your quick answer.

... I have 4 more questions:

1. Is the park race included in the 100 Euros or will there be an extra fee for this event?

2. What if I participate only in 1 or 2 of the races? Is a splitting of the fee possible?

3. Is there already a rough scedule for the weekend? I would like to know which race will happen on which day.

4. Will it be raining?

Steve Hinzen wrote:1. Is the park race included in the 100 Euros or will there be an extra fee for this event?
Yes - all is included.
Steve Hinzen wrote:2. What if I participate only in 1 or 2 of the races? Is a splitting of the fee possible?
If you're a Pro, there are no options than to pay the full fee. We usually allow Ams to pay for less than all disciplines, but I'm not sure we are going to continue that. To be decided before the website goes live in March.
Steve Hinzen wrote:3. Is there already a rough schedule for the weekend? I would like to know which race will happen on which day.
Thursday: Flatland freestyle (!). (soon to be announced)
Friday: Park slalom, different location.
Saturday: Tight slalom = straight, dual
Sunday: Special slalom, dual
Monday: Hybrid slalom, dual
Steve Hinzen wrote:4. Will it be raining?
Some say early May is usually better than late May, but what do I know? What we do know is that Trocadero dries quicker than all other places, but unfortunately it has still caused us some delays here and there. But usually we've had the time to complete all the events despite the rain. But, of course, we prefer sunshine!

We're preparing for a better race organization this year, to allow us to be more efficient.

Thanks for the weatherforecast, Jani.

For some years I wonder what justifies the high entry fee for the contest in Paris. What exactly makes it so expensive? In every other (european) contest the average entry fee for Pros is between 40 and 60 Euros.

Steve Hinzen wrote:In every other (european) contest the average entry fee for Pros is between 40 and 60 Euros.
I recognize it is high indeed. We are contemplating giving a reduction for early sign up, but that is yet to be determined. We consider that the entry fee is 70 for Pros and the remaining 30 covers the food, drinks and t-shirt. Compared to most events the cost for the meals is higher in Paris as we have a 3 or 4 day event.

The real problem is that an event has be self-financed, ie there's no way you can allow yourself to loose money putting on a race. We also want to maintain a good amount of prize money, in order to attract the best racers. So, if you don't have enough sponsors, it has to be paid by the participants. After all, it's the racers that profit the most from the event. And very few sports are as inexpensive as slalom skateboarding. You get a whole organization looking after you over a whole weekend (3-5 days in the case of Paris), never mind all the efforts that have gone into the preparations, and those that also follow the event.

Point taken though, let's see if we can do something as we move on with the plans.

We are pleased to announce the addition of flatland freestyle to Trocadero Grand Prix 2008!

The event will be sanctioned by the WFSA - World Freestyle Skateboard Association - and we expect to see some of the best freestylers in the world coming to Paris to battle it out on the classic Trocadero spot. This was the location where Per Welinder and Pierre-André Senizergues and many of the other freestyle legends battled it out in the 70's and 80's.

Michel Dupont (France) and Stefan "Lillis" Akesson (Sweden) are helping us make sure we get all the details right for this new discipline. As a WFSA sanctioned event, we'll follow the international guidelines of WFSA, thus 2 x 2 minutes runs with 4 judges (Each scoring on Technical/Consistency/Artistic/Variety skills shown).

The main freestyle event will be held on Thursday (a day when there is no slalom event) between 14.00 and 17.00 on the red asphalt, flat area. Note that the freestyle event has now been moved to Saturday 17.00 to 19.00.

On Friday the 9:th a Freestyle Battle zone event will be held on the same location between 11.00 and 13.00. We'll also fit a Best trick event into this time slot and still leave time for skaters to travel over the new concrete skatepark to attend the park slalom & bowl event over there.

For those wishing to participate in the High jump event, it'll be held on the Sunday, probably 15.00 - 17.00) (to be confirmed). Note that the high jump event has now been moved to Sunday 11.00 to 13.00.

Note: The flat area of Trocadero will be subdivided into two areas for simultaneous activity, with two different speaker systems. Freestyle will be held on the right hand area with normal metal barriers all around the surface (for banners) and holding off the audience. The other area will have a blow up fence (used for roller hockey and other disciplines).

Please welcome the world best freestylers to Paris for a new classic event!

FAQ for freestylers:

What categories will there be?
It's an open event, with no Pro/Am separation. There will not be a seperate ladies class. Ladies and juniors are encouraged to participate in the open class.

What does the entry fee (50 EUR) include?
Participation in as many events as you like (incl slalom, bowl etc). Event T-shirt. 3 meals (sandwich+drinks).

How much practice time do we get?
The freestyle event is one of the many events of the Paris Festival Glisse which includes all types of skateboarding and roller skating. Prior to the freestyle event there will be a high jump event using the full length of the area, but not the full width, so we've been promised a practice area while they run the high jump event. All skaters will be given warm up time (group by group) prior to their participation.

Can we skate elsewhere?
Outside of the official time slots there will be a few other occasions when the spot can be used, if made available. But most of the time you'll also be able to skate on the marble surface between the stairs. This is outlaw skating though, but Lillis loves the place. It's a really good place if you just want to show off your talent and impress the crowd.

How many will watch the event?
Several thousand people come to Trocadero to get a view of the Eiffel tower and it's up to us to impress them and make them stay just a little bit longer.

How can I register?
Register online at http://event.Riderz.net. The online registration will open April 4.

Can I pay on location?
Yes, you can pay on location, but you need to register before. To smoothen registration, please paypal in advance.

Trophies are awarded in what disciplines?
There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the main freestyle event.
There will be trophies for the winners of: Battle zone and Best trick
There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the high jump event.

What if it rains?
If it rains, the event will be postponed as we see fit. But rest assured, once the rain stops the surface dries realy quick, so we'll try to get going asap.

Where could I stay?
There are plenty of hotels in Paris, all in varying price classes. Having enough tasks we have decided to let you find and book a hotel on your own, while we concentrate on making sure you get a top class event.

Where can I find more information about Flatland Freestyle Skateboarding?
Check out www.wfsa-freestyle.org and the 2(!) forums there!

Can I have a picture taken of myself in front of the Eiffel Tower?
You bet! You won't be alone.

We're looking forward to seeing you here!

Sorry me mentioning it, but today is April 8th and no website is online.

Could someone at least post a time table asap? They abolished the Night Train from Paris to Zurich and now there is only the TGV left that leaves 6 o'clock p.m. from Gare de l'est....so this is a bit of a problem....

There is no specific class for juniors at this race. But we'll probably give away some goodies to the best juniors. Thus entry fee is the same as for Ams. 50 euros - includes racing, meals, t-shirt.

It was my decision in 2003 not to have a junior class at the Trocadero. I don't think this is the appropriate location to let juniors (and even less kids) race.

What we want it the highest level Pro, Am and Womens race! And that's what we're aiming for.

SHUTTLE BUS to SKATEPARK EGP18
=========================

For those of you who will be at the Trocadero in the morning/mid-day/early afternoon on Friday there will be a shuttle bus (8 places) if you wish to go to the skatepark for the park slalom & bowl event (and just to hang out and have a good time). So for example if you plan a morning slalom session at the Trocadero, or if you participate in the Battle Zone Freestyle event (11.00 - 13.00) you can use the shuttle bus to go to the skatepark.

From your hotel it may be just as easy to go directly to the skatepark. See link to map here.

BEEP start change ANNOUNCEMENT

Posted: Tue May 06, 2008 3:30 pm
by Jani Soderhall
=========================
HEAD TO HEAD RACING
=========================

For the head-to-head racing we'll be using a new feature of Trackmate version 6.5. The four beep start will be replaced by a new random order beep start:

1.
"Riderz ready" - announced by the presenter

2.
beep beep beep - these three beeps as 1 sec intervals means "prepare yourself"

3.
silence - random (between 2 - 4.6 sec) waiting time

4.
beeeep = departure

False start is counted in relation to the fourth beep (as usual). A 2X penalty will be applied in accordance with the ISSA rules.

DQ penalty is 1.5 seconds.

I hope you will like this new timer mode, which will hopefully add a new challenging aspect in racing - "reaction", something we've had as a term before, but never been able to actual measure.

This is only a first heads-up. We'll clearly explain this at the riders meeting before the start of the each Am / Pro category on Saturday.

FREESTYLE - BATTLE ZONE rules
=========================

Here's a brief description of the Freestyle Battle Zone event, Friday 11.00 - 13.00, if you want to attend as a skater, or spectator. With the shuttle after the event, you can easily get to the skatepark in time for the skatepark race (park slalom starts at 15.00).

All skaters take rounds (during for example 30 min). Every skater does a maximum of 3 moves. A move is a flip, wheelie, footwork combination etc. Area smaller than the routine format. All particpants vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

If many participants they should be divided into different heats.

=========================
WOMENS CLASS
=========================

To add some fun for the ladies, we're letting them qualify with the amateurs. If they qualify good enough to make it to the head-to-head racing we'll let them do that, and thus possibly win the Ams.

In addition, we'll also let them do a true ladies head-to-head final, with 4 racers. This race will be used to determine the Womens category.

Despite our offer of FREE starting fee for the ladies we only have a few registered. If you know something that is considering participationa and that can be encouraged to come, please do so!
