[USSSF] Rules, rankings of the IGSA

Post by Scott Peer » Mon Feb 03, 2003 7:10 pm

I just read about the creation of the USSSF and wanted to say that it's good to see slalom skateboarding growing, and having an organization based on the east coast sounds like a good thing.

If anyone's interested in borrowing the IGSA rules as a starting point, have a look at them at http://www.gravity-sports.com/index.html
You'll see they're pretty wide open, mostly a framework to help organizers with the basics while allowing lots of flexibility to make races in traditional or novel formats.

You'll also see a ranking system that is based on the snowboarding system, and works pretty well, managing to be pretty simple but still give pretty representative rankings for racers who stay active.

For IGSA, it looks like the 2003 will likely consist of the WLAC series again and possibly a couple other events in the LA area, so far no others have asked to join in the rankings (beyond some informal discussions). If any other race organizers would like to join in the IGSA rankings (or merge rankings in some other way), that would be great.

IGSA is still new in the slalom arena, but the idea was to leverage off of their longer history in street luge and the other sports. As long as we all keep talking and skating together, hopefully the sports will keep growing and everyone can collaborate to keep making things better, too.
