Chris,
I'm still trying to break out of work!! Hell..I don't care where the venue is! I aint a tourist on race day . I'll save the Lakefront etc.. for pre and apres! But..does the change of venue reflect in anyway your solemn promise to me after our raft trip, to "drop you off at a crack house..and LEAVE YOU"? heh heh heh.
Bara, you're correct Yvonne has done more for east coast grass roots data tracking than anyone. And as we all know venues can change(at least this one was announced before the race day) Whatta ya' gonna do? Sue the city?
Chris ..Gudo says howdy, he's on the injured raft guide list as of a few daze ago (tipped up his inards surfing a monster hole..He may show in Chicago as my co-pilot..Med kit in hand;-)
P.M me or e-mail your cell phone # Sidlo probably won't be answering at his locale!!!
Enjoy,
Dave G
Off to the river I go (as usual) let the floods begin!!! The New rose 7 feet over nite...I'm skeeered!
ENJOY!! (while you can)

nah, you have to know Kevin Gamble before you can say that...the guy is top shelf....and Yvonne has done more to help out at races than almost anybody i've met yet....I'm a bit bummed they wont be there...
I'm traveling with my wife to this one too and it's a whole lot tougher to sell this new location than the one on the lakefront.......
That being said, everything's got to get it's start somewhere and it's not too far of a drive from Detroit, so we'll be there.
BUT!....that song leroy brown says the southside of Chicago's the baddest part of town...
so we know it wont be too pretty.......but it's still grass roots racing....and besides, Hollien will be there........there'll be plenty of firepower on hand if the hoodlums show up

hi,kevin it was mainly the city as the police commander(town hall district) in that part of the city was bumming on the traffic plan, even though we had recieved permission from streets and san, special events, park district and alderman helen shiller..grant park has always been out because of lollapalooza.this hill is a great hill on the edge of the pilsen neighborhood.this is 8 blocks south of dowtown.for 40 bucks we are providing lunch,a post race bbq, transpo for those who need it,start ramps.nova and i were bombing the hill last night and it rocks for the race.been through a 3 month process with the city, fronting swag and what not.dont come for all i care.cf

Venue change

Post by Kevin M. Gamble » Sat Jul 16, 2005 12:52 am

Yeah, what the hell happened? I thought all of the permits were finalized for Wilson and Lakeshore. Looks like scenic Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan have been replaced by railroad tracks, semi trailers, and warehouses. Just the kind of place I like to take my wife. Whose idea was it for the venue change, the Freak Brothers or the city of Chicago?

yep....saw that, and i never tried priceline before so i gave it a crack. The rules werent going to work for me though because it's strictly price based. I'm bringing my wifee on this trip, so i was geared more to location, even if it cost more....had to find a place near the shopping, restaurants and pubs....which is fine.....if it were just the guys, i'd be looking for whatever i can stretch the dollar with, but this is going to be a weekend-away for us too....that's one of the reasons we ended up where we did....the Red Roof was 275 for two nights including all taxes, with my discount.....so it wasnt too much more than what priceline would have found....but parkings a bit more too

Chris,

This is PAGE THREE of the Chicago thread. Go back to PAGE TWO down at the bottom.
Last week I was raving about the deal I got with PriceLine. I won't repost it here, but it's got all the details.

I almost said something when Ricky Byrd was talking about looking for a room, but I figured everyone was keeping up with this topic and had read it.

Chicago Parking

Post by Wesley Tucker » Sun Jul 10, 2005 6:37 pm

Chris and Chris,

Parking at the Club Quarters is $19 a night, so that's $57 for the weekend. That sounds like a lot, but consider that I'll have to pay around $50 in tolls to get to Tway's house and back. Once you get to Maryland, they sock it to you about every 15 miles, then you have to cross all the bridges.

So going to Chicago is toll free but costs to park and going to Stamford CT costs tolls but parking is free for hotel guests. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

yes, and there's options here...(look at this, two family guys writing on line on a Saturday night, is that sad or what?)....the "L" runs pretty close to us, a station's about a block south of the Embasy ....but it's a 3 block walk from the Wilson station to the park....or, you can drive to the site. That area has allot of parking....as i recall, it was free to park there too...

Hey Ricky.....hotels downtown are filling up pretty fast....the Texans and co. are staying at the Embassy Suites.....it's about 450.00 for two nights, but sleeps 6, so that may be your best bet...(i think it's on Ohio street?...right by navy pier)...Nancy and i are staying at the Red Roof about a block down from Embasy. That set us back 275.00 for 2 nights for a standard room.....

If you have AAA, call the local office and see what kind of deals they have to save some bucks...and of course Wes did good on priceline too...

The Gambles are staying just outside of town a the Holiday Inn in Skokie...It's far less expensive in the burbs....but it's a matter of what youre looking for....By big city standards, the Chicago hotels arent too bad.

Keep in mind though that parking will set you back 30.00 a day downtown if you have a car.

Good luck with that big storm coming in tonight

Road Kill reps are really looking forward to racing in beautiful Chicago. We have yet to book rooms and may be in trouble due to waiting so long to do so. Where's TX Outlaws staying?

Matt G. is fired up. He's never flown and never been to a truely big city. His racing is coming along nicely. Sarah has been working hard but she may still have trouble with a tight course, time will tell. Any words of encouragement are appreciated. She will be frustrated, it's her nature. Josh is Josh, you never know how he will perform. We are holding our second race of our Summer Series tomorrow. I expect him on the top of the podium again. Clifton is planning on making the trip up. He has taken his racing up another level since the Red Clay. I, myself, I suck.

I have a few nice Roe PS decks in my shop that I can bring along if anyone is interested. I have a 36" El Diablo Med, a 32" Unlimited Med and a 29" Hester Med. with 6 wheelbase drillings.
I've got Khiro Rail Riser kits, Pocket Pistol C-Block, Gravity slide gloves, and should have a couple sets of Tracker RTX/RTS combos. Give me a call at 601-605-5845 if you need something.

If Greg is going to be taking some photos, I'd like to get a couple of those awesome shots of Josh and Sarah I like he did in St. Louie of Goad, Bobo and The Machine.

See everyone soon!

If that's the case, I'm glad to see he's back on a board.

Public Tranpo

Post by Marty Schaub » Tue Jul 05, 2005 5:26 pm

Hey Ya'll

Chris speaks the truth on Chicago transpo. Even though I am not headed to Chi-town for the race I have been there before. We did a Cubs weekend a couple of years ago and stayed at a hotel out by Midway airport. The hotel shuttled us to the CTA start. We trained right into downtown, walked a block, next train right to Wrigley. Clean and efficent. Afterwards we trained to Rush Street and crawled bars for hours. Train? Two blocks and back to the station. VERY sweet.

Cool thing was I was able to access all of the maps online. Chicagotransitauthority.com I believe. (Or CTA.com) CRS disease.

WT,thats an awesome deal.my reccomendation, dont rent cars.parking is expensive(at least 20$ per day at your hotel) and public transportaion is cheap and plentiful.you can taKE THE SUBWAY TO WILSON FROM DOWNTOWN(REDLINE). you can take the blue line from ohare or the orange line to downtown from midway.these trains take a little longer than by car with no traffic.if there is traffic, the trains are way faster.cabs are reasonable.from the airport to downtown, think 30$,but if you double up,halve that.so again,i do not reccomend cars.try CTA.com for more details,cf

PRICELINE DEAL IN CHICAGO

Post by Wesley Tucker » Mon Jul 04, 2005 8:09 pm

I guess this is a good deal? According to the map, it looks like my hotel is right across the river from The Sears Tower.

ANYONE GOING TO CHICAGO WHO HASN'T GOT A ROOM YET, CONSIDER THIS:
I went to Priceline today and bid $75.00 a night and GOT IT. The cheapest retail room I could find was $109 a night out by the airport. I think with this room I can get in the car, go on Monroe to Michigan Avenue and head north to the race sight. Pretty simple.

Club Quarters Central Loop Chicago

Check-In Date: Friday, July 22, 2005
Check-Out Date: Monday, July 25, 2005
Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area
111 West Adams Street
Chicago, Illinois 60603
312-214-6400

Reservation Information:
Reservation Name: Wesley M Tucker
Check-In Date: Fri, Jul 22, 2005
Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM
Check-Out Date: Mon, Jul 25, 2005
Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM
Payment Information:
Your Offer Price: $75.00
Number of Rooms: 1
Number of Nights: 3
Travel Insurance: $15.00
Subtotal: $240.00
Taxes & Service Fees:
$43.66
Total Charges: $283.66
RESERVATION CONFIRMED

Anyway, it looks to me like a deal, so I grabbed it. Oh, and I bid for TWO STAR room and was upgraded to a THREE STAR by Priceline. Give it a whirl. It can't hurt to try.

No, you can't stay in my room.

Just make sure that C-Nova character shows up. Counting the days. C-Fav will talk to you as the race approaches. Allen I am afraid we won't have a Sword to pass around, will a bottle of Tequila suffice. Chris look forward to seeing you and the Kill City Racing crew. Ricky Byrd and RKR will be in the house. hi.we have bee working on getting it up this week on the other site and the webmaster should have recieved his payment to post today.we have posted all the details on this site previously.there will be photos of the hill and a paypal button to pay your 40$ entry fee.today we recieved our approval from the city alderman helen shiller.the application for the city is 13 pages.we are in great shape for our pemits.if anyone has ever put on a major race, not an outlaw, then they know how this is nuts, especially on top of everything else.cf
