The San Francisco Gravity Fest Slalom Challenge will be held on the final day of the Festival on Sunday, May 4, 2003.

Complete event information can be downloaded in a PDF file at: PDF Download

The download/PDF file includes details of race location, maps, lodging, transportation, etc. Please note that this description may not yet list “Skateboard Slalom” as an event since we are organizing and running our own race as part of the overall Gravity Festival but not under the IGSA National technical rules. Each rider must wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads and sign the IGSA standard waiver to compete in the slalom event.

Photos of the hill can be seen at: Photos

Road Surface: Slightly rough but we should be able to run a good GS race on it. Foot-braking will be a must for most riders.

Entry Class: Open (combined Open and Pro). We will consider a women’s and kids division pending interest.

Course: Single Lane GS -- part of the course may be more like a fast Hybrid.

Format: Each rider will take a minimum of two timed runs depending on the course and final number of entries. There will be a DQ penalty based on a “TBD” number of cones hit per single run – designed to suit the course which will be announced on race day.

Race Day Schedule: Riders must arrive before 9:30 a.m. as the road will close at this time.

This is a one day racing event: Sunday - May 4th, 2003

Registration 8:45-9:45
Practice: 10AM - 11AM
Racing: starts 11:30

Entry Fee: Entries are limited to the first 50 paid racers. Advance entry fee is $40 – paid via Paypal or check/money order. Deadline for Paypal payment is: Monday, April 28, 2003. All checks via mail must be received by: Monday, April 28, 2003 Please also send an e-mail confirming the “check is in the mail” for tracking. After that, $50 entry fee the day of the race - if space permits. Sorry no exceptions. 1st 50 riders signed up and paid will be racing. Paypal ID: SK8KINGS@aol.com or mail check payable to : Carrasco Skate Co/SK8KINGS at P.O. Box 20354, Fountain Valley, CA 92728-0354

Entry Form: Every entrant must sign the San Francisco Gravity Festival Waiver and Release to participate. This document can be viewed and downloaded in advance at: Gravity Fest Release and Waiver. Must be 18 years of age to sign – under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign.

Cash Prizes: Will be paid as a percentage based on the number of total entries for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place only.

Sponsors/Vendors: Manufacturers/vendors interested in donating prizes or making other promotional arrangements – please contact maria@sk8kings.com

Anyone having difficulty downloading the PDF or maps, e-mail me and I'll forward directly.

Please sign up and pay in advance at Online Registration. This will help us to keep the race day chaos to a minimum so we can focus on having a great race day!

Hope to see everyone out there in beautiful McLaren Park having fun!

Special Thanks to Adam Trahan for his "hospitality" on Slalomskateboarder.com!

We are making a change to the previously announced “open” racing format. There will now be Men’s Pro, Men’s Open, Women’s Combined, Boy’s and Girl’s divisions. Age cut-off for Boy’s and Girl’s classes is 16. All racers will run the same course based on sign-in order and times will be categorized according to class. All other details will be announced at the racer’s meeting on race day.

We have set a low entry fee but still have to cover operational costs. With that in mind, we will have a cash payout in the Men’s Pro class for 1st through 3rd place only. All other classes will be awarded from the donated prize pool. So far, the prize pool is shaping up nicely – Thanks again to all the pledges so far.

Our main goal for this event is to keep it fun as well as challenging for all. Looking forward to seeing you there! 38 entries and counting – with some heavy hitters on the list.

Don’t forget there is an advance entry fee cut-off date of Monday April 28 – which means all payments must be RECIEVED by that date.

Updates will be made to the contest calendar as well.

Additional prize sponsor announcement:

Logitech has donated a cordless mouse/keyboard combo and possibly some other electronic gizmos. Thanks Vance!

Deathbox -- has also pledged some cool and desirable product – be there to find out what. Thanks Hack!
