[2012] Call for US Championships

Dear US status marshals, organizers, riders,
BOD ISSA began to prepare a schedule of events for 2012. The major race of the season 2012 in American continent will be the US Championships 2012. I would ask you for help in finding suitable candidates for hosting this important event.

The conditions for hosting the US Championship 2012 (Major status) are:
• ISSA rules
• Prize money minimum 2000 USD
• Cone judges need to be paid workers
• Ramp start only
• Must include at least three race formats, one should be Giant
• Three days event
• At least three racers categories: open, women, jrs.
• Permits, permissions, and insurance in accordance with local laws and practice
• Secondary computer monitors and printing qualifying times, brackets, results required
• Complete Results of all races have to be handed to ranking administrator and published in ISSA web latest 1 day after end of race
• Specific website set up including advance subscription & payment; travel and access instructions; support & advice for lodging
• Meals to riders should be provided by organizer
• A media coverage plan should be part of the application
• The race organizer is responsible for submitting video, photos, proof of media impact and a brief written report about the event for posting on the ISSA website
• All public communication (web, press, posters, flyers, etc) should visibly include ISSA official logo and mention this is an ISSA sanctioned event
• Sanctioned by US Marshals Committee
• Sanction application forms received before the start of the season or at least six months in advance

If you think that you are able to host this important event, please contact US status marshals and you ask him for assistance with completing application form for hosting (the status application form http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/ISSA/ ... n-2012.doc). You fill in the status application form in case when you aren´t able to meet any of the requirements. Your request can be evaluated as the best under certain conditions.

These were proposals made by the EU status marshals to get the 2011 season going. It was decided by the BOD to have these as a recommendation and that the status marshals (North American or EU) could override the rules if there was a good reason. So, it's a rule, but exceptions are authorized, if there's a good reason.

Going back to the "paid" cone Marshall's, the North American status Marshall's have been substituting "dedicated" for paid. The cone Marshall's are usually volunteers, but not racers wives. They can be boy scouts, Derby Dolls, a church group, a girls academy, etc, where they are rewarded by community service hours and swag.

Yep we did this with the last Sizzler 8 people just for coneheading, we had some hiccups but that worked well. we are planning on that for the Sizzler this coming year too and will use it for the Nats if we were to get it.

This is a good approach! Budgets are tight and if you can recruit any group of motivated assistants and not pay, that's just as good.

Yep, we fed all of the coneheads and gave them event shirts, as well as a round of applause at the end of the two day and a run at the scwag pile.

We have enough Texas Outlaws now and more new Team Members about to join our ranks. Skateboarding in general is going off in Texas. Which is good. All around riding in going off. Skateparks are springing up all over the state. It is true. We will make a bid for the 2012 Nationals. The COSS Boys ran two contests in one year. We feel we can do the same. Consider it our contribution to the sport. We plan to kill it in 2012. As far as paying cone heads. The economy is not that strong. That would dig into our budget. Mind you with having Hockley Derby Hill, it makes things that much easier. See ya in Texas. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws.

Hi Eddy.
We felt then we needed to say in advance what criteria influence the decision of status marshals what event will be assigned the status Major, Main, Prime. Nowhere is written that you can´t have a event with not paying cone heads with the status Major... but if other event will meet all the criteria most likely will be assigned the status Major to this event ... It´s point of my view...

Pete our efforts to keep the sport going is our main goal. Texas is a HOTBED of all around skaters. Too many CRITICS OUT THERE. Example I went to a total of 3 races out side of Texas last year. All 3 races had timing problems. How do you promise your harsh critics that your own race will not have timing problems. You can not. Impossible. Instead of our detractors throwing stones. They should look at their own muddy feet. We our fortunate to have a Killer facility to race on. Nothing in the USA compares to our Derby Hill. Last year we did not want to run Main. We wanted to go totally Outlaw and blow off the Slalom World. REALLY. Why. We felt our efforts from the past were not appreciated. After sucessful Sizzler after Sucessful Sizzler. We are not backing off now. We hold our coarse. We remain STRONG in our resolve. Slalom is becoming more and more popular in Texas. More than any other state in our country. Abdoning our efforts for the last 8 yrs is not our style. The Sizzler will go off. We welcome all competitors from all over the World. Mikael Hadestrand and his brother Viking,Viktor and Kaj from Sweden will be attending. From Canada we have Louis Ricard also coming. The Legendary Richy Carasco and Chris Yandall will be bringing it from California. John Stryker from Washington will also be returing to lay down some heavy lines. Never count out Keith Hollien from Florida or Jonathan Harms of the St Louis Daggers. Dave Pirnack from Colorado land of the COSS Boys. And Joe Mc Claren will be returning to defend every title he won last year. And so many more AWESOME people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Giving the races Status a long time in advance is a good thing. It helps the race promoters to plan in advance. Turning our back on the sport we love is not our style. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws.

It's great to hear that slalom is growing in Texas.

Just to clarify the question on status attribution. The "requirements" for the various statuses that the ISSA assigns are recommendations in an effort to harmonize the quality of events - and to push the quality of event organization upwards. With the status assignment, racers should be able to understand what to expect from a race. But many other factors must be weighed in and the full and final decision lies with the status marshals of the region. The North American status marshals for 2012 are: Steve Pederson, Lynn Kramer and Jonathan Harms.

Neil, I don't see any qualifying or practice for the Tight. Is that correct? Will the qualifying be done on the Hybrid course for both races?

Also at what round (8-16-32) will the bracketing start for each categorie?

The intention is to qualify for each of the tight and hybrid Mig. We will bracket for the top 16 in each class. For sake of riders getting to race we will break out similar to A,B,C for racing but the Cup/Awards will only be given to the main bracket. Make sense?

By the way Neil congratulations on getting the nationals, I sure that you guys will do and AWESOME job. Way to go on getting the Soapbox derby hill to those things are as close to perfect as you can get!! I would speak from so personal experience there. Would still love to see some Video by the way!! :)

Marcos I have a free weekend coming up....(the fiancee is heading out of town!) If I can get the DC boys interested in skating I will definitely get video....though I may have to hold it hostage until a Texas Outlaw signs up for the race :)

Donald,
Just because I am 53 years old and have raced Master's(4 time World Champ) in the past, does not mean I have to always race as a Master. I have been racing as a Pro since 1986 and only as a Pro until I turned 50(except one race in 2005 right after I turned 45 in Miss(the 1st ever Master's race)). I will continue to race as a Pro or Master. If you bother to look at the 2012 PRO World rankings you will see I am not the only one that thinks so.
