Secret Slalom Series

Post by Rick Stanziale » Sat May 31, 2003 2:11 am

at the urging of the Texas Outtlaw, I am in the process of compiling the final standings in my secret slalom series (secret, in that I never promoted it, just maintained points from the following races: Mississippi, St. Louis, Georgia and West Virginia)

points were awarded according to ISSA rules (25 points for first through 1 point for 16th) and then Ii applied a formula similiar to what the Bowl Championship Series uses to come up with a final standings

the only requirement was that you raced in more than one of the series locations

and without further fanfare, the top ten (number of races in parentheses)

1. Vlad Popov 23.333 (3)
2. Keith Hollien 21.5 (6)
3. Mark McCree 12.4 (5)
4. Brian Parsons 12.25 (4)
5. Bobby Mandarino 11.42 (5)
6. Tom Thompson 10.2 (5)
7. Rick Stanziale 9.5 (4)
8. Jonathan Harms 9.3 (6)
9. Jeff Goad 9.3 (6)
10. Ricky Byrd 8.5 (4)

special props to Keith Hollien, Jeff Goad and Jonathan Harms for being the only skaters listed who competed in all 6 races

full results for all participants online tonight

Cool to look at the results.
Would it be possible to see the number of races attended in parenthesis by the amount of points?

i.e.
2. Keith Hollien 21.5 (6)

done

I know "averaging" points isn't done by other series organizers, but if you compare the Secret Slalom Series final point standings to the results of any of the individual series races, the results speak for themselves...

Those least coasters always come up with a system that would allow to call themselves the best in the world....

On a serious note...

I'll comment tomorrow as I gotta run.

Take local races. Those are attended by local racers. A couple of out-of-towners try their luck ones or twice, but these are exceptions. The trend is: WCLA will not attend DC, and DC will not attend WCLA. Point system favors locals.

World Cup Series. It’s only possible for a couple of people to fly all over the world and gather World Cup points. Chances are good that one of those people will win the series. Point system favors attendance more then performance.

World Championship. One competition to decide a pretty heavy title. Point system favors particular course specialists on that particular day.

GRS comps. Who’s got time and moneyz to go to everyone of them?

Which brings us down to System-66, the most objective and fair point system in the world. And since it is what it is, the winner should be called no less then a World Champion, and not just in slalom.

It would appear that simply showing up is greatly rewarded in System 66 also....looky where I placed!

Tom,
I think you may have errored....

It`s "showing up and racing is rewards in itself". win or lose.

But if you look at the participants in 66`s point system, just showing up doesn`t reward those of lesser skills. Those who podium often (with obviously greater skills) will be showm in thier true light

System66 seeks to sanction the following races next season:

Luna
St. Louis
Boston
Farm
Joja
Mountain State
Flo'duh
DC

The attendance minimum will likely remain a minimum of two locations however, I may add a feature that rewards attendance, particularly 100% as well as two regional "super" races (DC and Joja, for example). I also seek to promote the jam session format, but that's for another thread.

Beer should award attendance.
