Uncool post
I am all for more options, but this last post was uncool. There are plenty of places to discuss other similar bushings, but not on someone's post to sell a few items.Gareth Fitzgerald wrote:I heard 2 really juicy rumours though.
1. Radikal now have a new supplier for their bushes
2. Chaput is making reflex bushes in oversize shapes.
Could the 2 rumours be linked?
If anyone else is interested in placing an order for these bushings please let me know. Thanks alot for those of you that have already placed orders.

For JimZ bushes it near impossible to have a core free result. Mine actually have a very small scallop out of the top where the wheel cones in toward the bearings.
For harder bushes it really doesn't matter if there's small remnants of core. It would make a difference if you tried it for soft front truck bushes though.
I manage to position the core along the centre of the truck where there is minimal compression anyway. Sort of trying to keep things symetrical.
Here's some pics

Regarding how I make them,
First I split the wheel into 4 quadrants. Disc the inner and outer down to the thickness I want. then drill the hole out in the best position which will leave the most thane for what shape I want.
Mount them on a mandrel (threaded rod with washers and nuts) and turn them on a wood lathe using rasor sharp chisels.

Re: bushings from 70mm wheels
I actually try and do the same thing (remove all of the wheel core), but depending on the height of the bushing, and what wheel is used, you can't get around it. If you want 89a reflex bushings in an oversized shape (Jimz / Stim / Rad), you get to deal with the wheel core.Art Pryde wrote:Curt, the overall shape of your bushings look very nice.
I generally try and stay away from having any of the black wheel core on my bushings, because I think they could make the bushing "ride" stiffer than their rated duro, and one side of the bushing could ride softer/harder than the other depending on which side of the bushing the black wheel core is more prevelant....Just some observations.
It's worth it... I run oversized 89a reflex bushings on the back truck of every one of my slalom boards.

Re: 89a z bottoms
Hey Art,Art Pryde wrote:I was wondering what are your techniques for making a Z-bottom from a 70mm wheel without having some of the rock hard black wheel core on the bottom/top of the bushing?
Thanks,
Art
Not sure what Gareth's technique is, but I've made a few bushings out of 70mm wheels, and they still work fine with a small ammount of wheel core left in the bushing. Just make sure that you mount the bushing with the "wheel-core" side away from the hanger / on the washer side and I don't think the remnants of wheel-core make any difference.
Some photos in this thread on that "other" site:

Thanks for the compliment. As you and Vlad well know, these bushings take a while to make.
I was wondering what are your techniques for making a Z-bottom from a 70mm wheel without having some of the rock hard black wheel core on the bottom/top of the bushing?
