That sucks. If we raced there and got caught, what would happen?

OK people, I might have messed things up a bit. Doug and I went to take some runs at Occoquan and took four blazing, drafting beauties. We were definitely in the 35-40 range at the fastest part and our boards were literally inches apart from each other. Four walks back up though, was equal to a five mile hike.....that's not the bad part unfortunetly.
On our last walk up, a cop pulled up and basically said we were trespassing.
He was cool about it and even said he didn't have a problem personally, just that the park is closed so we're not supposed to be there.

For me, I feel like I have used my one get-out-of-jail card. I don't think he'll be as cool next week.

So basically here are our options:

1-Move it to Van Dorn, where we could have different starting points so everyone can run in increments. Plus a tow up saves time and offers more rides.

2-Meet at a certain locale, consolidate and hide 2-3 cars around the corner and keep all starts below the road at Occoquan. This will be truly "outlaw" and I must say, I offer no encouragment. I will ride if everyone wants to, but if everyone decides to take a pass, I won't be disappointed.

I apologise. We should have just left it alone until next week.

If anyone wants to train before the event, a good way to practice is to simply stand on your board in front of a mirror, find your most aerodynamic tuck and hold it for a minute or two. A nice set of spaghetti legs soon follows. On this hill, whoever stays down the longest and drafts the cleanest will win. And staying down in a tuck for over a mile is not as easy as it seems. So, go practice! But don't break the mirror.

I'll have my Big Red X w/ Randals and 92 flywheels, a Leemo Downhill w/ Randals and kryptos and a modified Bozi Mad Bomber w/ seismics and Gumballs. Doug will have a few Migration speedboards and Mike High has an extra Leemo stick also. I think I have a Mallard somewhere.

Just got off the phone with Dr.No and he says he's coming. Probably bringing a few luge sleds as well.

This could easily become more of a downhill "Gathering" if pure racing formats aren't established. As usual, it will probably be made up as we go along. Timers are out and I don't think we'll get any course volunteers, so we may just take fun runs. Pick your own grudge match!

We'll see what happens....

That's one of the greatest benefits of the DC/DC and DC Outlaw crew. You can test run SO many different setups, and get advice from people who have tried lots of different hardware...

Probably mid hundreds to upper hundreds for a pretty decent board.

I dunno how much flywheels regularly cost. But I do know the Randal Downhills are around $50. and a landyacht DH is $75. I think flywheels are around $75 or something like that...So there's 200 right there.

speedboards are not cheap...ive been lookin at some and the cheapest ones are like a little over 200 big ones but i mean i geuss if your used to buying slalom decks that cost that much its not big deal...

at the last race it was anthony with the Big Red X. He let me ride it. Totally crazy. Now that I think about it, I wanna test out how my own equipment works compared to others. So I'll just use my own setup.

That is the sweetest board I've seen in a while. It's my next board for sure. It's pretty close to the Dregs Maggie I currently ride.

Joe's board however, is a loose and squirrelly pool board. Joe, you'll probably want to borrow a speedboard or longboard. we'll have plenty.

could we in the lower classes maybe choose to start at the top at the gate?

because i know i can take the hill and i just set up a tahoe deck ive been staring at for the past 3 weeks with some dewedged 149mm indys and its so good but im getting randal dh's and gumballs from bozi so i might want to go to the full potential of them...and i know that danny is looking for a good race heh heh heh

Danny,
The hill starts right about where the gate is. From Rt.123, it is possible to see past the gate somewhat and a little (less than 1/3 the way) around the curve.

I think you can safely do a mass start race on that road. We did it there after the slalom outlaw race. Riding down with everyone is kind of what makes it so fun. As you say - it is a sweet, safe hill.

Danny, any large soft Abec11 or 3dm wheel will be fine. I might break out the 101's.
It's pretty smooth though it does have a section or two where it gets a little scratchy. All in all, it's a sweet, smooth spot that can be easily maintained by everyone.
Seth, I forgot what trucks you had on that zoo board, but it looked fine enough. Make sure they're tight.

The pro class will start there for sure, but we'll start the other classes down a bit.

We're talking about another race at the backside of Fountainhead in March.

Different classes marked by different starting lines.

From the top, half way down and a bit lower than that.

No dual or mass, individual timed runs only.

These places open in the middle of March so we gotta get it while we can.

Good point Wes, Doug's going to go scope it out this week. If we get shut down, we can just go to Fountainhead and run cones. I'm am so stoked to see this many people responding. This should be a lot of fun. We even got a strong "maybe" from Rick Kludy and his son Justin who live in San Diego, California, if they can get cheap tickets. If anyone doesn't know Rick, he's a totally cool, world class downhiller who's hit 70mph standing on a skateboard. He's a legend!

We'll have a Pro class for anyone who wants to go full on with me, Doug, Mike High, Kludy and JT. Our top speeds will probably be 35 if we're lucky. Any of the fast slalom guys would probably do well here. We'll have a $10 or $20 entry fee for a winner takes all, which means they just get to pick the restaurant where we spend it!

We'll have an Open class for anyone who has little experience but wants to be competitive.

Then we'll have a Juniors class for all the young riders. If any of the younger riders want to race in the Open class that's fine. One or two practice runs should let everyone know where they want to be.

I'm still not sure how we're going to run it, but Doug has promised he'll figure it out.

Sounds fun, Anthony. Make sure to plan out beforehand where people can park. You can’t park just outside the gate, or park employees will notice and come in to bust. If you can park somewhere else, such as at the quarry that is across 123 (I'm not sure if you can though), you could enter the park without being seen doing it - Walk to the vacant house that is adjacent to the park entrance and then go to the back of it. From there you can go through some shrubbery that divides the yard from the park with only minor line of sight from 123.

Don't start riding from the gate - they can see you there from the road. When we had an outlaw slalom race there, we started just after where the road bends at the top.

This sounds like a blast. Count me in. I measured that hill one day at just a little over a mile long. Legs are cramping by the bottom.

Been hasseled there a few times but usually the rangers were really cool. They have even given us rides back to the top a few times.

Bombing straight from the gate could be scary. I was usually carving across the hill until I hit the mellow section just after the access road.

Your Van's gear is fine. A set of wristguards are suggested and gloves would be nice. It is an outlaw race, so everyone rides at there own risk.
I can tell you that the more protection you wear, the more confidence you have to rip it up. We will have plenty of extra safety gear including leathers and moto helmets. Also, we'll have a bunch of extra speedboards.

its right off of route 123 and if youre coming from 95 its after the occuaquan bridge at the top of the hill right before lorton on the right side and if youre coming the other way going towards occuaquan its on the left side just past the prison

Ocaquan(sp?) park is closer to the closed down prison. It's right by that rive with the bridge going over it. I don't know street names or anything. But if you hit the bridge before you go past the prison then it'll be near the top of the hill past the bridge. If you pass the prison first then it's at the top of the hill and on your left. Sorry if my 15-year-old directions suck.

You'll be fine on either. I've ridden it on a slalom board with Indy 101's and had no wobbles.

Wheels will probably be the key. It has some slightly rough sections that probably make it wise to run something softer than 90's.

What Occoquan lacks in pitch, it makes up for in length.

Cool! This sounds fun.

If you're out for fun, just about any truck is rideable at Occoquan. Gumballs, Flashbacks, Avilas, Avalons are all good choices on the fun factor. I'd guess around 85 to 88 are good duros for the pavement and the temps.

I'm sure Anthony will chime in on what's good to win.

Doug Dupin and the DCDC are hosting an outlaw downhill race at Occoquan (did I spell that right?) park, Sunday Feb 22nd @ 1:00pm.

I'm sure most of you have ridden that course and realize how mellow it is. Nothing risky, just a good long drafting hill. We have a bunch of kids that are giving it a go. We'll probably have two adult divisions and one for the kids.

Plenty of boards for anyone who needs one. Leathers and full-face helmets aren't necessary but full pads and skate helmet are mandatory.
