That sounds smart Rick. We'll run out of daylight before you know it and I know all the new guys are going to really enjoy the hill. They'll want to be screaming the GS, not qualifying.
Why not pull names out of a hat to qualify the elite, totally random and no bellyaching afterwards. I'll be supplying prizes from my sponsor, Oscar Mayer, as you've requested.

Gilmore is not scheduled to be done with his final surgery until 2009. This race makes void the warranty on his newly constructed knees and shoulders.

That was too cool puling up to the parking lot and seeing some of the fastest racers in the South all sharing stories. It was about 1:00 AM in the morning, nothing like getting a cold beer handed to you and a hug from your bros. The Cold Fusion Sizzler design was my idea. Came up with it at the last minute. Glad you liked them Frank. Thank you for the Banner. See you soon bro. Eddy Texas Outlaws.

hows this sound?
You know the town will be packed with people for the bike event.
You want to showcase the race itself, but not necessarily bore people with the qualifying.
I think you mentioned something like this before
Hold the qualifiers at a different site with a similar course earlier in the day or on Saturday (is there anything else happening Saturday?)...jam style, giving everybody up to a predetermined number of runs.
you can even do them dual lane to make it faster if you want, but with the skaters racing against the clock to set their time, as opposed to running against each other.
Everybody gets skate time...you would get some "pairings" you wouldnt normally see
You get the qualifying out of the way before the race
The brackets would be set up before everybody gets to the actual race site
It becomes a full race weekend

Single lane jam format qualifying on Friday along with GS single lane race. Full brackets for all on Saturday. Qualify us off site for the big show, everybody races in a bracket.

that's a good question...Last i read, the qualifying would be jam session, earlier in the day, with your best time being your qualifying time....
Personally, i think that's cool since i've never started off of a ramp before and it'd be nice to get some practice in before the actual race itself (and before there's a thousand people watching me splig off my board!)....also, the brackets could be all drawn up by the time the actual course is set
Just my uneducated two cents

Brackets
Rick,
Just curious what you decided for the brackets on Saturday. 8/8/16/16? Qualify on Trade St. for Saturday's race downtown - my suggestion.

I believe your talking about alston, although you can say that about andrews entire skateboarding technique.Eddy Martinez wrote:The people outside were watching the slalom race in the parking lot. Great.....and all the "Is slalom gay?" community needs now is to get ahold of that pic!
Hey, uh, Joe.....i've heard that little saying before, but i dont think the last line had anything to do with peeing in a fan.......
as for that pic........y'all may be laughing in the room....but....standing in front of that window bent over, what the hell were the people outside seeing???
I'm only going to be sober at racetime......

You know I've worked for years now in slalom skateboarding.
Last year I coached the US champions in both the girls and young womens category. Do they call me Joe the coach? Nope
Last year I found a great new hill for the Farm race. Do they call me Joe the hill finder? Nope.
Last year I personally recruited about a dozen new riders to slalom, helped them get set up on boards and start racing. Do they call me Joe the recruiter? Nope
Ya pee in one fan.....

I'm not too sure you should thank Joe I for anything that happend during the redclay parties. (Unless your into that type of thing)Eddy Martinez wrote:All I can say is you had to be there bro. There was a little bit of Sword Swallower in all of us. Those of you who were there know what I mean. The race was 1st class. The SLALOM STOKE was So HEAVY in GA. One of the BEST AWARD PARTIES I HAVE EVER ATTENDED. On the flight home to Texas the next day I literally passed out on the plane. Thanks to Joe Iocavelli for inviting all of us to the Buchart wedding that was being held there at the Hotel. I did not know Joe knew the Bucharts. It was so cool to see The Knuckleheads Sidlo and C-Favero, had not seen them since St Louis 2003. Look forward to seeing everyone at The Red Clay Cup. Eddy Texas Outlaws.

Count in a few guys from Detroit, Rick. Should we be bringing sleeping bags?.
I was wondering if youre going to do the GS in jamformat like the Pump Station. Seems like that could work out pretty good. Everybody gets chances to skate more. No long waits between runs. You can use both lanes of the road. There's no arguments for "cone out" or whatever, ...and pretty easy to figure who finishes in what spot when it's all over.
Not sure how you did it in the past.....

Wait. I forgot. It's just a block or two from UGA. Beer and whores are a given.
Never mind.

I just booked rooms for 32 people, some may have to share beds/floorspace (i.e. - the first 16 people that contact me are probably assured beds, the rest will have to share or bring sleeping bags - the condos are very nice, brand new)Christopher Bara wrote:Hey Rick, can you post or Email me the names and/or ph#'s of a few hotels around the race site?
