[2005] Antibes International slalom, Sept 10-11, 2005
After a long period of reflexion, we take the decision to do it again.
It will be 10 and 11 of september on the same place. (Salice parking) For tight and special slalom and on the Garoupe beach hill for the giant (it could be a super GS).
We activelly start our work to find money to organize a world event. And propose price money to the pro racers.
We do again the nations team slalom at the end of the week-end expecting new nations be there as Italia, Russia, Latvia or Canada.
More cones, more sun, more drinks, more girls..

garoupe
why don't you bring all races back to the garoupe? maybe a flat ts but special slalom would be sooooooooooo much nicer on the garoupe....

Re: garoupe
I agree, do it all on the hill! No need for a flat ts, better have a fast ts on the hill.Martin Siegrist wrote:why don't you bring all races back to the garoupe? maybe a flat ts but special slalom would be sooooooooooo much nicer on the garoupe....
But, maybe it's difficult to shut down the hill for such a long time?

I like the idea to use that parking place in the evening with the light and everything. If I would decide I would set it up like this...
Saturday:
Day: Garoupe hill
Giant, Qualification,
Special, Qualification
<pause, go for a swim>
Evening: Parking lot by the beach
Straight parallel
Sunday:
Day: Garoupe hill
Giant, Final,
Special, Final
<pause, go for a swim>
Evening: Parking lot by the beach
Nation slalom
Then push Sunday for the media and possible crowds.

I think we do something like that.
But it's difficult to move the racers 2 times a days.
and it's difficult to move the crowd to the Garoupe hill.
and especialy it's difficult to move all the staff and races equipment (start ramps...) from Salice Parking to Garoupe hill.
Anyway you can swim in the 2 places.
Don't worry we'll find the best compromise!

No problem to put a special slalom on Garoupe hill. But it's fast and 2 years ago some amateurs, girl and young had problems to finish (or start it) and some pro has complained.
Pfff pussy!
the quality of the road is ok for that. The only problem is to bring crowd to the Garoupe at night. With more communication may be.
So schedule can be.
Saturday : Garoupe hill
Saturday morning : Giant
Saturday afternoon : Special qualification
Saturday night : Special final
Then party at the "GALION" with the swimming pool.
Sunday : Salice Parking
Sunday morning : tight "as cyber slalom"
Sunday afternoon : tight final + animation slalom (child slalom, freestyle exhibition...)
Sunday night : Nation's team slalom.
Then party and barbecue, live musik in the Yacht club and the beach.
Something like that : what do you think about this?

The problem was not the speed, but the course setting itself. You said you were going to make a course possible for all categories of racers. That was definitely not the case. I'm all for speed, but with courses adapted to it. It was very sad to see skaters hit 20 cones in a single run. It wasn't good publicity for slalom racing.
The surface is not super at La Garoupe hill, but it's not super at the flat parking lot either. I prefer a faster special to a flat special.
Don't let the race continue too late into the evening. In 2003 we had so much moist on the ramp four consecutive racers fell when going down the ramp (Strobel, Ugolini and other top racers!!). Just run the finals immediately after the qualification. Start the Giant early in the morning (at least am). Let the Pros have a small training window after the am class, so we all have a chance to warm up. Make controlled practise runs. 1 or 2 for everyone, no jamming. It's not suited when a single run takes so much time (and effort from both racers and cone marshals). But oops, I'm kind of off topic now. This should apply to every race.pierre samray wrote:Saturday night : Special final

I can't explain this problem we had in 2003 with moist. We never had this problem before when we skated at night at the Garoupe Hill (but we never used start ramp either) I think they had just painted the road with white line 2 or 3 days before the event. (very bad idea!) or may be the metal which finish the start ramp. No problem last year during the nocturn final.
This years: We'll have more time for giant (race and training). About the special: I will let you do it with 2 racers from different country.
2 years ago I wanted to cut the speed and did it, but with a too technical offset slalom. Some like it, some doesn't. (these who made a lot of noise) I was sorry to make a too dificult slalom for the no pro racers but the schedule was very tight (3 slaloms a days..WOW! another mistake!) But at the end the best were still the best and I see no more than 2 or 3 cones flying during the incredible dual Giammarco/Strobel.

Good remark Donald. The ramps on the flat were excellent, those on the hill not so good. But probably OK for the giant though.Donald Campbell wrote:hey pierre
this year make sure you use the start-ramps you used at the parking lot.not those other ramps as seen on the vid.
the start will be way faster-you surely like that,eh?

Don't worry Pierre we won't tighten our wheels.
Would it be possible to have a good layer of concrete spread there to go even faster though???
I remember a slalom contest in Béton Hurlant which was held on a (quite fast) concrete surface, and I've been praising concrete surfaces ever since, for both slalom and freestyle...

We have previous 2 people who speaks this years one of whom in english for sure.
One in french make animation, the second one give informations to the racers in english.
But eventualy help is welcome.
Thanks for your proposition.
This year I'm alone to look after everything (well! I usually do, but this year it's even worse!)
Unfortunately this year I haven't got a lot of time.
No webmaster for the site.
But soon you can register on line and have information about the schedule.
Just know that this year. We try to make a simple nice event on a nice place, but no specific animation or price money or dotation. we just want our slalom to be clean, funny and interesting.
Special on satursday, giant on sunday morning and nation slalom on an hybrid in the afternoon.
About accomodation I've no answer for the CREPS but may be I find something near the race.
