Slalom at the da School POSTPONED TO May 20th, 2006

Post by Karl Floitgraf » Fri Feb 10, 2006 5:29 am

Hey guys

This spring the Needham High School Longboard club would like to invite you to our little spot, right on campus for a totally legal slalom race to promote slalom skateboarding it the town of Needham MA.

We are going to attempt to construct a start ramp. Some foot dragging will be necessary just to slow down to make a turn but after that there's a run out.

The course, I promise there will be a course an intermediate level skater can really open up and PUMP! But it will be open enough that a beginner will make it and put down a qualifying run.

Most likely this event will be the do or die test for slalom skateboarding in Public High Schools, our local business sponsors, the Principal and teachers should be present. I hope everyone will come show them what slalom is all about.

Entry fee: $5 for anyone 18 or older, kids skate free.

More info to come in the next few months.

Hey Nick,

Better than just coming to a race, come down some weekend this spring to skate with us. Skate with us for an afternoon you'll have no trouble putting good times down at the race. That goes for anyone, once it's warm we skate all the time so email me or call and we'll skate (it's really good practice because we've got people at all levels).

You've gotten fast, havn't you?

Isn't about time you challenged Kaptain Karl to a race?

A little friendly competition never hurt.

karl,
i cant wait to go to a "real" race . I know what you mean, none of the farm races are "real" races. Their not serious or legitimate or even fun for that matter.

also, i was joking in my last post. i'm sure molly will let you borrow one of her old dresses

ya i'm down for some skating in the boston area

Marshall

meet me at the flagpole after school. We'll settle this.

And of course I don't think those races were fun or worthwhile for the sport I mean why would I have driven 5 kids up to one if I thought I was going to have any fun. Sarcasm on a website isn't going to get us anywhere. I loved da farm series, that's why I am throwing one in the exact same format, I wanted it to be a series race but my requests went unanswered so I'm doing this one solo.

The smack talk in this forum is so fresh, I love it.

I see my name has been dropped in vain, well, it turns out i have boxes of dresses in my attic and maybe next time I'm at a race i'll pass them out like candy. Then you can all undress and drop trow infront of dozens of men and a few girls, and then get props from Keith Hollien for being a man about it, like i did.

Karl, i'd come to your race to watch tway smoke you while changing a daiper (and i say that knowing you both can smoke me) but i'll be packing for a trip to Taiwan (not kidding.)

Hey Marshal, keep it real and say hi your fab sis for me.

Joe- in the bushings forum, i put up a poll and suprisingly you are the most popular bushing ahead of khiro and radikal.

James West is flying in from New Mexico on thursday. Fortunately he's the only one whose flying in. Obviously I'd like to run the event if possible.

I am going to look into the propane tank stuff they used to dry the course in Breck last year. One of those and we'll be in business.

We're not cheating we set it early in order to have the time to make truely the best course we could. We got together with a variety level of skaters to test out different ideas for course setting because race day is not the time to set the course. I had one chance to try out different courses with Glenn, millie, Ben and a couple random people. That was a good oppurtunity to set a course everyone could be happy with. We did set the course, but we're not practicing it. I needed to see that one person could fly and whilly who hasn't slalomed in years could make it. Making the course good so everyone can enjoy it is my top priority. With 48 people at such different levels it is extremely difficult to set a course for everyone. Believe me, the course I would have set on race day would be much harder. I'm doing you a favor.

Maybe I'd let you set the course but in boston we already had one molasses disaster.

HAHAHAHA

Karl,

Do you kiss your Mom on Mothersday with that mouth? I was needling you a little as smack talk to rev up for the race. Didn't know you would crack. That's funny stuff.

Simsbury? Simsbury was set so that everyone there could make it, and they did. Except of course you, that kept sliding out on the first offset. Go watch the video.

Simsbury directly or indirectly brought tens of new boys, girls, men, and women to our sport. The course did kinda suck though. I expected the road would still be closed and had to set to leave room for cars. I wouldn't do it that way again. Please stop making me feel bad about it. I know you said a bunch of people were going to quit slalom this year because of it. I need their names and phone numbers so I can apologize.

What do I have to do to get you to quit slalom? THAT would be doing me a favor. Then you wouldn't have to let me beat you anymore.

But what's that have to do with your race and you and the Needham Brokeback Club setting the race course and running it? Was it just you and Willy? How about those test pilots sit out practice just to make it fair?

Can't wait for your race and the opportunity to see how you've learned from all the mistakes I've made. I hope you'll take my Sunday morning nit picking and criticism in the same fine spirit.

:-)

There. I put a smiley face to let you know I'm fooling around.
Feel better?

Don't despair.

Rain is a factor at every race. One year in Breck, it snowed.

It's only Monday. I say we all remain nimble and Karl and Brian make the call on Friday.

Are there any restrictions from pushing it another week?

It's this weekend or bust I think. The problem I have is that I graduate Needham High in 3 weeks and being a student made organizing this race a lot easier, so I'm not sure if I can do it at some other point.

I have no idea how many people are still coming so saturday if it's not wet we'll skate.

That's funny Joe.

Not to worry, Tyler's being smuggled across the NJ boarder in a duffle bag containing my old unwashed pads from last summer. Not even Newark Airport security were brave enough to withstand the stench, let alone open and search that thing.

"Nancy" was also warned that if he starts acting up at the race, he will go back in the bag and remain there for the majority of the trip ;)

Oh btw Needham is not flooded, a few basements but nothing terrible. I'm worried about Derek, the chapmans and TK north of Boston got nailed a lot worse than we did.

Yeah, I do, but not everyone else does. Which is why I'm still reserving the right to duct tape your mouth shut and throw you in the trunk if I see fit. Maybe then I could actually move up a place in the final standings ;)

And you know, Mr. Barbagallo, I looked up the definition of the word felch, and it said the word didn't exsist. I'm wondering where the hell you learned that word and if its even a creditable resource.

Actually, scratch that. I don't want to know where you learned that word or its definition ;)

Rich is missing. He showed up for only 2 sessions out of 20, maybe. So we traded him for a newbie for this trip called Louis. He's 18 (mmmmh... barely legal!) less hairy and a lot softer than Rich. I'm sure you will like him... :D
