Re: DIY
Yes, but the the "skateboard standard" is 24-thread. All the home supply places have are coarser threads. These are acceptable IF you want to start carrying all kinds of nuts for different kingpins. Personally, I like keeping everything standard: same nut for all my axles, same for all my kingpins and same for mounting hardware. It also cuts down on the number of tools needed.Marty Schaub wrote:Home Depot or Lowes has the Grade 8 bolt in 3 inch.
I found a fastener supply here in town that carried all the different bolts imaginable. I got a bag full of Grade 8-zinc coated 3" bolts for 12¢ a piece. Just look in the yellow pages under "fasteners."
Oh, and make sure you get SHOULDER BOLTS. Fully-threaded bolts can easily fatigue under bending and twisting loads . . . just ask anyone who had some of the early-generation Radikals.

Don't you guys have problems with the hanger touching the baseplate? I've spent hours in adjusting a Spiltfire and make it turn more but I couldn't manage to make it as turny as I want it.

Re: Split bushings
Where can I get a 3" kingpin for my front splitfire? Can the existing kingpin be easily removed? Is this possible for a "do-it-yourselfer"???Gary Fluitt wrote: A 3" kingpin with a shaved stim underneath and two bushing on the top of the truck (thus the 3" kingpin). on top I run a clear radical and a conical white khiro with no insert. This combo works well for me. Very turny and supple. Some guys have these so loose that they can bang the hanger into the kingpin, so I will open up the outside bore to address this.

Split bushings
On my TS board in the front I'm liking Evan's idea. A 3" kingpin with a shaved stim underneath and two bushing on the top of the truck (thus the 3" kingpin). on top I run a clear radical and a conical white khiro with no insert. This combo works well for me. Very turny and supple. Some guys have these so loose that they can bang the hanger into the kingpin, so I will open up the outside bore to address this.
On my GS and Hybrid boards I run regular 2.75" Kingpins and on the back I use a green stim underneath (untrimmed) and a white barrel khiro on top. I do the same up front but I use a trimmed green stim.

bushings
Ive been cutting down radikal bushings for me and karr in barrels and stimulator shapes. They arent as soft as white khiros in thier lowest duros(white khiro 73a, clear radikals 75a) but they have a ton of rebound so you get more return on your pumps.

Bushy
I run white / white front and back for tight. If you can't get em to turn enough then run a white cone on the bottom too. They'll turn.
Depending on the Hybrid, I'll run an all white front and a blue / white rear. The course dictates if I use cones or barrels.
Have fun.....
