[The 2006 La Costa Open has been renamed as The 2006 Encinitas Open and there's a very happy mayor welcoming all to San Diego's north-coastal gem city. The format of the race has changed, with an Outlaw Slalom on Friday, instead of qualifying. Details are on SilverfishLongboarding.com in the Slalom Forum.

Silverfish has done a great job of publicizing the event. I'm also aware that you have put in a good deal of time and efort to help get the final approval from Encinitas. Many thanks for that.

The updated information which is at NCDSA is as follows:

"Planned divisions will be A and B Open, Jr. Boys and Girls (17 and under), Kids Boys and Girls (12 and under), Legends (50 and over), Women Novices, and Women Open. C Open will be run, time permitting. Kids and Novice women will race on a modified short course ($15 entry fee). Entering two divisions, add $15.

Prize money will be awarded to the top Men and Women

Saturday will be a dual lane GS and Sunday will be a dual lane tight, in classic La Costa Boys fashion. The road is straight, so it will be good for spectators. The runout is long and flat. Footbraking should not be a problem.

Friday at noon will be an outlaw GS at the Poway Pumpstation. We will run a short course for anybody who wants to compete "C" for two runs, then run the full course for those who like speeds of 30+mph.

You can race anything you want as long as it is made from skateboard products, no matter how modified. News on "special boards" will be forthcoming.

The race is sanctioned by the American Slalom Skateboard Association.

This is a Main Event.

Should I be nervous? I am just ampin myself out with the whole racing thing I guess. I am kind of like: I havent slalomed on over 3 months, yet the race is in 2 weeks. Uh oh.

But I dont have any good places to practice near me, and I fear that if I fall I could injure myself (Mainly my wrist again) before the comp.

Robbie,

Just go.

Feeling nervous is normal.

You'll have a good time. You'll learn a lot. You'll get to see all kinds of equipment. You'll meet a lot of people who are just as stoked on slalom as you are--or more. Even if you get stomped in the races, you'll still be better than you were. There's no substitute for just going to races. Just go.

Thanks John and Claude. You two also persuaded me to go. It was loads of fun. I did much better than expected (1st place Junior GS, 2nd place Junior TS). I got to meet a ton of cool folks, get advice from Carrasco, Mitchell and others, see crazy boards/equipment, get some free schwag, and most of all improve my skill.

Claude - I wish I would have know that was you at the race. I remember admiring your board and the setup and asking you "Is that your board?" but it didnt click that it was your board. Like your Pro model. Durrr...Well anyways, glad you and the other Canadians made it down safely and I am glad I got to see you guys race. Hopefully I will see you guys at the next La Costa Open and hopefully I will be able to race with the "Big boys"

Just going to the event and racing with everyone gave me a boost of stoke on slalom. I admire slalom racers so much more by trying to make it through the course. Seeing all the pros fly through the TS course was insane. I am so glad I got to be a part of it and hopefully there will be another one.

Wish I could've been there, too, but I did lots of other races this year, and it just wouldn't have worked. Sounds like it was a great time for everyone.

Well,

I went to California and did four things:

• Qualified for all the races.
• Did respectable against a challenging line up.
• Never DQ'd on any timed run (doing that on CBark's tight courses is an accomplishment.)
• Didn't fall or even gritch a little on any run.

It was a great weekend. Lynn, Tiger, Clay, Pat, Denis and the whole LCB crew did a great job. Good venue, good courses, good crowd, lots of fun. The weather was everything you'd expect in So Cal. It was great spending the day on the hill, hanging with Tway and the crew after the races and best of all checking out the babes! (You know, the silicon/SoCal thing. WOW! It never ends.)

Thanks once again to the Ick House for taking me in and making a wayward traveler feel at home. Rick, Carin, Sara and Katie are absolutely the best in this little slalom skate world of ours.

Well, enough of that: Rick, go gel coat my board!

thanks so much to everybody that put on this race... i didnt qualify for any of the races but i had the most fun ever at a race... on sunday me and cfav got knocked out.. so did tway so we all went surfing..... i got to meet some amazing people, the highlight was totally meeting cliff coleman, tway almost convinced me to stay in cali a little long. and i would have too if i had the coin... seriously the best trip EVER
