Speed at Hood River
Hi Antonio,
I'm not sure of the exact speed. I finished middle of the pack among the racers. So there were definitely a lot of people going faster than the video I posted.
They said the course was about a half mile long (800 meters). Since we were traveling zig zag down the road, I'm guessing we traveled much more than 800 meters. The top racers were finishing around 70+ seconds. I finished around 80 seconds (83 with cone penalties). So I'm guessing most racers were going between 35 to 45 kmh.
You guys in Europe should come on out to Hood River next year. The Columbia River Gorge is beautiful and Portland is a very nice city. Plus the skating spots out here are excellent.

Helmet Camera Video: Giant Slalom (Hood River Oregon 2007)
Just posted a video clip of a warm-up run from the "Rider's Point of View" of the Super Giant Slalom (GS) Course at Hood River using my helmet camera. The camera is attached to the left side of my helmet, so the video is not centered exactly. But it should give you a sense of how fast and challenging the course was. The dark shadows and bright sun made it difficult to see much of the course, plus your legs were rubber by the time you had to foot brake at the bottom.
I'll give Maria at sk8kings.com a full res copy, so hopefully we'll see it in some of their DVDs later in the year.
