complete results?

Post by Emrik Larsson » Sun Sep 30, 2007 9:59 am

It would be nice if you posted complete results with all contestants, times etc..as a pdf, or something. I mean, this is supposed to be the most important slalom event of the year, and I know there are a lot of slalomers all around the world, as well as sports journalists who wish for more, than just the top four in each category.

I am dissapointed too at the lack of coherent results, beyond 4th place.....or 3rd.

Surely Fridays results could be up somewhere? And Saturdays?

I know from experience that psoting race results BEFORE racers get home is appreciated by not only the competitors, but also those following races from afar.

Surely Statesville has internet? A laptop, someone who can get WIFI?

Having watched the Grand Prix live this morning from Mount Fuji, perhaps expecting too much info from the US is ambitious.....some results would be nice though!

I agree with Michael. There needs to be something in place to ensure that the days results are posted.
As someone following from afar I find it frustrating trying to search for random updates on various related threads.

Yes some results would be very nice!

HENRIK
our wildcard
i remember when i spoke with marion karr a couple weeks ago and i told him that
henrik has a huge potential,i sort of "warned" a few americans also.
now he came and he WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nobody anticipated what just happened...
i spoke with frank yesterday and we were guessing who got overall 1st.we didn't have the
tight results then and we both were wishing it to happen for henke.
now it happened.the first time as far as i can recall it that the victor also won on non us products(board/trucks)
we are superduperhappy for henke-he really deserves it,for a lot of reasons.

when he comes back we want to talk about a special schweeeeeeeeeeeeden board
right now we are just blown away and happy for henrik!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two consecutive (and different) european overall champions...

Not very strange that the TS was won by a european and not very strange that the Hybrid was won by an american. More suprisingly that the euros did so well in the GS. Way to go!

Now where are the complete results I need to analyze this! :)

Yeahh..results!!!!????

I though 'silverfish' was the media partner or some such nonsense....

At least one person could put up either a photo of the results like Paul Price does....or put the PDFs out like Dan does.

I am proud to say we posted up Wasteland results within the hour , from the pub with a laptop...

Mind you I'm still wanting to see the times from the Hybrid at the Worlds in 2004!...That ainte never gonna happen is it...?

Silverfish is the media partner, even in "England". The moment we get full results, we'll post 'em. Although we had mid-heat results and from the finals within moments of each run, our man on the ground left Statesville before getting the filled brackets on a chip. I've asked and we ought to have the PDF's today. In the meantime, we do have some photos in our Worlds Galleries that were uploaded from the scene.

All reports are of great racing, great times together and a great event, programmed by the Downhillbillies. The Worlds move again for '08. Maybe it will be handled by someone reading this. Take notes: the bar may have been raised but you can ensure all the little details that postscript provides are handled.

results?

Post by Emrik Larsson » Tue Oct 02, 2007 3:50 pm

Even though the races went well and everything, it's a disaster for the sport if we can't come up with an easy system to immediately post results somewhere visible to everyone.
Shouldn't be that hard to have a place on the slalomskateboarder website or someplace else, for everyone to look at, and also results that goes way back... even to 2004 ( whatever happened then? ha ha)

Because they screwed up? And ONE reason why it still annoys me is that IF they had put the results up immediately then the mistake would be obvious!

I'm still wondering how I can come out of a startgate AFTER a racer...beat him to the line....and STILL get a slower time! (yes they were timing different starts..a system I detest)

I think its a courtesy to racers to show the COMPLETE results as soon as possible.

As a racer I know that IF I beat so and so I would have could have might have won the race...!

I want to see cone counts, I want to see times. Ah well.....

After we posted results from the race at Wasteland BEFORE the racers even got home I had a ton of good comments about it. People were surprised. And pleased.

One reason I really like the new timing system we have with the large LCD display is because EVERYONE gets to see the time in front of them. A racer could ask soemone to note it for them, just to cross-reference with the time keepers, but the important thing is the racer knows his time, and the others do too.

I agree with you Michael, the screen you guys have seems nice. Can they be bought separately? I should probably check the timing thread instead.

At the hybrid the early reaction times was quadrupled instead of doubled, since both the spreadsheets and the timing software added the double early start penalty. The spreadsheets was actually available just a few hours after the race, but when Richy and I saw that his time against Kenny (Richy missed the beep and went a whole second early) was wrong, and that he should have moved on and probably won the hybrid (and then the overall title as well), the spreadsheets magically got lost and only the results was posted (after a month or so). Ouch.

I am working on getting all of the data posted. Thanks for your patience.

Yes, with a little pre-planning and some quick hacking the results could be posted in real time.
I tried to snag the files before the computer guy shut everything down, to no avail. Next time,
I think I will try to get the results up while we are still on the course. This is something I will
personally work on for the Dixie Cup.

in europe all computers have a cd-rom and a burn program such as nero f.e.
these come in quite handy when you want to save results inbetween and avoid having the
rest of he world asking for results.

Gee, thanks for the tip Donald. I guess i should have known that before working in hardware
development/testing here at IBM. :)

CD burning is sooooooo 1998.

The reality is that no one followed up on uploading the data. Heck, I would have dumped everything to
a thumb-drive had I thought about it during the race; then taken a minute to post them. I think it was more of
a situation like, "I thought that guy was taking care of that". Either way, we'll get it taken care of, and it will
be better next time around.

...and while waiting, with some simple math we can conclude that the Euro's took more medals in the Pro class than US and Can combined. Not too bad on US territory.

...but if you add Women's and Am's it shifts the other way!

The fact is WE ALL WON! This was a gnarly event, we all had fun and the future looks promising! (if you were there and saw the am's - and Ella - you know what I'm talking about)!

I'll post some more later.

I just spoke to Marion and he will get something posted soon. The problem for the Worlds is calculating accurately the overall finishes for the three day event. There's no way to do this automatically with a spread sheet option. So he is having to take over 80 skaters (maybe more) and indivually calculate their finishes and score it so the list is composed accurately.

Marion is very methodical, very deliberate and very task oriented. Something like this is not something he'll sling up only to spend two weeks making apologies and taking remarks for corrections and revisions.

It was rather quick and easy to get the overalls for Sunday night's presentation as there were only a few in the top 10 who would have competed for the Big Three awards in the four classes of racers (Pro, Open, Women, Juniors.) Getting the rest of the field computed, though, is taking some time.

And it's not like he doesn't have a real job he neglected in many ways to make this past weekend happen. And then yesterday he had the job of all the manual work of getting the race equipment stored and the rental truck return. Oh, and in between that he played taxi driver getting different skaters all to the airport . . . on his time, his dime and his hospitality for the many visitors to the race.
