Please note.

the comment:

"Relax, it's skateboarding!"

posted at the end of the riders list on the event website list does NOT reflect my opinion.
I surelly want this contest to be runned the proper way and a proper rider´s list is part of it, otherwise we should not have it.

The right way is the relaxed way.

Carsten you are right, I do understand your point but....I had to make a few deals with the press to see that they would show up.
This was the best way I found to make it possible for them to film the PRO´s with some decent light.

I do hope you understand.

These three hotels are like 5 minute skating from the contest location but they are a bit expensive:

Mercure Amsterdam Airport 4
Oude Haagseweg 20
Amsterdam 1066 BW
Netherlands

Hotel Nieuw Slotania
Slotermeerlaan 133
1063JN, Amsterdam
+31 (0)20 61 34 568

if you go to www.amsterdamslalom.com then click on INFO
scroll down the page until you find:

list of cheap hotels in Amsterdam.
click on it

you will be taken to a page with HUNDREDS of cheap and good hotels. Pick one in the center of the city places like Leidseplein, Rebrantplein or any address that ends up with a gracht word
from the center of the city you have to take tram number 2 to the location. Please refer to www.amsterdamslalom.com under INFO then scroll to PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

why always this long break between quali and finals of the AM's ???????

Motivation is going down, the muscles have to be rewarmed, etc.

Why not 1st the Am quali & finals , and then the PRO's quali & finals???

there's no direct shuttle ?
or anyone else arriving early saturday morning, maybe we could go together?

Best is to take a bus or cab. There's no tram going from Schiphol to the sportspark.
You can take bus 195. But then you'll still have to walk 11 minutes from the bus stop to the park. Cab will costs you between 20 and 30 euros I guess. Bus only a few euros.
From Schiphol to the site you can take the bus without any problems. You an skate the last part, it should take you no longer then 5 minutes and it is all done on bicycle lanes. No problem at all.

I am working at finding a place for in the case of rain. If this goes as planed we will skate on the SAME LOCATION but then inside a covered venue for bicycle races. I still need to get the OK from the association that takes care of the place but I think we will not have any problems. Bad news is that it is flat.

Do your best to read the letter above I apoligize for the small printing. It is good to see that the city of Amsterdam is backing up a slalom skateboarding competition, we are not part of a festival or whatever other event. We are just a slalomskateboarding event.

The city has provided us with fresh new asphalt, advertising of the event and they also have cancelled a cycling event that was going to happen on the same location on the same day they had to pay a fine for that.

We will start on 8:30 AM Saturday morning August the 16th with the registration of riders.

I hope we can start on 10 AM:

Tight slalom qualification for the amateurs.

Tight slalom qualifications PRO´s

Tight slalom Final Pro´s

Tight slalom Final AM´s

Hybrid slalom qualification PRO´s and AM´s

On Sunday August the 17th we will start at 8:30 AM

Hybrid Slalom Finals for the Amateurs

Hybrid slalom Final PRO´s

GS Qualifying runs Amateurs

GS Qualifying runs Pros

GS Finals PRO´s

GS Final Amateurs

Two days of solid skateboarding.

Facilities:

You can camp on site from Friday evening on.
We have reserved a half football field for the tents. We also provide showers, changing rooms and proper sanitary facilities. All of it of the best standards, clean and new. Please take good care of it. You will all be provided with trash bags. Please do not make any fires at any time. The location is well lit, no BBQ, sorry. You will be in a football field next to a golf course, ten minute walk to a lake and a ten minute tram ride to famous Leidseplein.

!!!!!!!BRING YOU OWN TENT!!!!!!!

For the ones looking for a nice and cheap hotel:
http://www.flyingpig.nl/
You can also go to our website:
www.amsterdamslalom.com
there is a link there for nice and cheap hotels in Amsterdam.

Prizes:

AMS: Goodiesbags are full. Thanks to Vans and to Hardcore Suplies
PRO`s : It depends on the number of competitors but it is looking very good already

Starting ramps will be provided by PAVEL. The big ramp will be used, please wear a helmet!

I do hope to see you all here.

Post by Joyce Wheldrake » Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:21 pm

Gentlemen of the ASS. I regret not being able to go to your contest this year. Maybe I was the first woman to go down your big windmill start ramp. The ramp made me almost flat bottom out but it gave me just the right speed to go into the course for a good run. Hope to come back another year.
Some of you guys are looking for hotels. The location is a bit away from the Red Lights. If one were to stay by Overtoom, Osdorp, Sloten, Slotervaart area you would be closer. The prices have increased since I started going there big time. The cheapest hotels on expedia are closest. Tulip Inn Amsterdam City West and Basion Centrum Zuid West.
If you have a car stay at Zandvoort En Zee at Pension Irma Louise B+B. There are lots of other B+Bs, way cheaper out this way than staying Centrum. ($50Euro a night single ++) Its only a 15 minute drive to the contest and it is nice out there by the beach. There doesn't appear to be any hotels by Haarlem that are affordable.
Hoping to go to Grenoble in September, maybe see some of you then.
Later Skaters!

Hola Ricardo!! and all the others!!!

Man I must congratulate Spain for the worderfull victory in the European Cup, great football and Nadal was also very good. So it is now up to you guys :-)

Ok:
The contest starts Saturday morning on 10 AM with the qualification for the TS AMs. Please go to our website on www.amsterdamslalom.com there click on info and you will find a link to a lot of really good and cheap hotels in Amsterdam.

Please keep in mind that the website has not been updated in the last week or so due to the vacation period, so you your name is not on the riders list do nt worry eventually it will be (sorry....).

The contest goes on through Saturday and Sunday, we plan to finish at around 5 PM on Sunday. So everybody can catch their flights back home on Sunday eve. The location is really near by the airport.

This is it for now.
Oh yeah before I go...I have surfed Mundaka in 1987, I was a much younger fellow then but I still remenber the lefts I surfed. :-)

Hi Robert,

I have two meetings this week with managers from two hotels in that area. More info soon.

The camping site is on the racing site. It is almost like sleeping on the course. :-)

It is a quite nice grass field. You can place your tent there. There are also all the facilities, like lockers, showers, WC and dressing rooms. All very nice. They are part of the sport complex and they are used for the events that happen in the sport complex.

Hi Flavio,

are there some special rates for the competitors
in Hotel Mercure ?
(Last year in Hannover was Mercure a sponsor
and the cost of a doubleroom were about 35,00 EUR.)
What about the campsite - Is it in the same area ?
If you go to Riga we can speak there about it.

Kind regards

Robert

I hope we have hereby started a new trend. Let's make it free for the girls all the time.

Indeed Jani. You started it and I am glad to be able to do the same. This is the least we can do to get more girls involved in slalom skateboarding.

By the way, are you the one that can change the title on this topic from PRIME to MAIN ? I would really appreciate if you could do that. Thanks!!
