As you might guess, the Antrim Chamber of Commerce is going for a SLIGHTLY different demographic with this particular event. Seriously though, our project is to plant 20,000 bulbs in and around town over the next five years. Our plan is to have it attract visitors from throughout the region and get into some travel guides and regional magazines. We got lucky with the USA Today article, but that's what it's about.

Just got back from racing in Texas - talked up your event (the race - not the daffodils) to racers who haven't been there yet. The season is in full gear now, and we are coming to your town SOON!

Friends of Antrim:

Antrim Daffodil Day. Nope. Not a skateboarding event. But if you macho skaters out there want to come see the 5,000+ daffodil bulbs and attend some gardening clinics, we'd love to have you visit Antrim on Saturday, May 2. See the the event web page at:http://www.slalomskateboard.com/daffodils/ We've got a fishing derby and bike rodeo for the kids, a free movie, and a breakfast at the Presbyterian Church.

Headlining the clinics is Roger Swain, former host of the PBS show Victory Garden, and possibly Governor Lynch, but he hasn't committed yet. We're even going to be mentioned in USA Today in an article on daffodil festivals.

I personally planted many of these bulbs and have the poison ivy to prove it. So you'd better come and enjoy the X@#$ flowers!!

The dates for the 2009 Antrim Can/Am Slalom Championships have been set.

Friday thru Sunday, September 18,19 & 20, 2009

Plan on arriving Thursday 9/17 or early 9/18 assuming we keep the same schedule.

We won't be setting up the registration until next year.

Thank you to Joe, Brian, Mig, George, Glenn, Juliette at the Maplehurst Inn & the entire town of Antrim for a killer race and one hell of a good time. EVERYONE involved worked their butts off.

The weather was beautiful, the hill was awesome, the courses challenging.
Being in the parade made me feel 10 years old again & bombing main street to the bottom with the blessing of the police after the parade was PRICELESS! The BBQ & fireworks ROCKED!

Watching & being involved with the beginners race was something I won’t forget. I can’t help but remember …. That’s exactly where I was 19 months ago. I’m amazed every time I think about it!
I’m grateful everyday to everyone who helped me out when I was just beginning.
The expression on little Matt’s face when he won the Full Bag deck was epic!

It was great seeing old faces & meeting new ones.
Bobby filled the weekend with stoke, Raylene & Emilie ripped it up!
I can’t wait to see their progression on the slalom course.

I finally got to meet a girl I have been chatting with for a year on Myspace.
Mary Gatlin lives in Brooklyn & came all the way to Antrim to meet me & all the other skaters. She is originally from Texas & used to be a skater. Come to find out, she knows Lou & all the Texas Outlaws from way back in the old days….. It truly is a small world!
I sent her home with a Pavel GOG deck I bought from Joe. She is going to set it up, start skating again & I have a feeling we will see her racing next year!!!

On behalf of Mary-Beth, Dan, Gabe and myself I want to say Thanks to everyone involved in helping with the race.

To those that did not attend do yourself a favor and try to make a future one. I can't name everyone but you know who you are. Even after our parked rental car got hit and we were stuck there things were so good we couldn't get down or anything.

The town folks, the police, the church the organizers and everything going on just somehow kept us all in a positive mood.

I went to Toronto with Sydia & crew and MB went to Ottawa with the boys and Bernie. The business meetings went great and the move is imminent and will likely be in a few weeks.

We just received and e-mail from Brian telling us our gear (we left in Antrim, no room) has been vacumm packed (pillows & sleeping bags likely some clothes) and packaged along with the other stuff and is ready to be shipped. What a huge Thanks we owe you all.

Mig & crew did a great job on the race. Although I was in quite a bit of pain throughout the weekend (no it wasn't my knees) it was great and the competition is fierce.

As for the kids race. This was so nioce. Helping out these newbys get better run after run with a little bit of technical coaching and the odd gear adjustment kept the face of pain burried deep beneath the smile.

One more thank you...to everyone who signed my now retired Avalanche Ice Rocket snowboard - it looks great and is already on the wall!! I think I got all racers on there, plus George P., both of Joe's parents, Maria Carrasco, and Brian Biehl and Dave Kirkpatrick from Antrim...the local police officer was the only one who refused to sign it!

There is not (yet) any argument about the record. The ISSA rules for world-record reporting call for some sort of documentation to be presented.

Brian asked me if he could submit a photo of the timer and the course as documentation (since he thought they were available). I agreed.

The documentation is so that we won't have the opportunity to argue about this in the future.

BTW: There was an unofficial time reported of 20.179 -- so it would be very nice to have an official timekeeper or race organizer submit the official time.

Hell-Fadell took a snap of the timer and PC pretty sure. That man takes awesome pictures. Also, we have like 50 people that witnessed the event 3 times... well two perfect clean runs with a 10" single cone on the third and one kick-ass world record setting time. If there is any argument on the record I got two high-kicking black belts in my house that are available for hire-out... and for Richie they'll do anything gratis

I know that pictures of the course will not be a problem. I had Michele Gamache(?) take a pic of the timing rig after Richy's run so that does exist. There were other people with cameras there but I know he took a pic for sure.

For those that do not go to the "other" site...

Lavin falls on grenade and saves thousands at the Antrim CanAm.

Hardly, but there was the psycho chic that someone had to get rid of so I volunteered. It was a bit like jumping on a grenade but getting to drink beers first.

Antrim rocked. Went to compete with myself (again) and somehow lost?? Anyway, I have never seen such an event with township support such as this from the pastor to the Inn Keeper to Betsy and her apple crisps to Brian B. and his tireless event support and work. Truly amazing. Small town America lives.

Special thanks to Hell Fadell, Richie, Keith, and Marty for whom without I would not have a chance reaching any potential left in me; you guys are selfless dudes and I am proud to always feel included in your company. Rob, you escaped the shrapnel and ended up in the pink so-to-speak; thanks for the fun. Joe you're getting plenty of thanks for a great job done - it was an epic weekend. Mig, you're amazing period. George, you added a fresh touch to the emcee weekend and no one could ask for a better co-host or race coordinator (whatever you were doing) on the weekend. To Emily thanks for the free sex (was truly a spiritual evening) and for putting the chill into Adam's soul. Lastly Mr. Barrett, it's been too long since we've seen you and it should always be that way...
