Any updates for 2009?

Post by Jani Soderhall » Sun Dec 06, 2009 6:01 pm

As a part of getting the 2009 ISSA World Ranking update, I'd like to have this event calendar as correct as possible, making sure that every event, no matter how little is included. Also, help me check the dates and disciplines listed.

Maybe it is all in there already, but it's worth double checking.

Once it's complete I'll make sure the events get into the SlalomRanking calendar.
Then we know exactly which results we need to go hunting for.

Post your suggestions for corrections as a reply, as fast as you can!

Steve, if you can update the calendar as comments may come in I'd appreciate it. In a week or so I'll review the entire listing and update the slalom ranking contest calendar.

Posts regading updates handled can be deleted as they're done. No need to leave those traces here once we're done.

Thanks everyone!

If you can help verify all the events above, and their statuses I'll have them entered into the calendar at SlalomRanking.com by Monday. Corky gave me to the access to it and I tried the other day, so I'll have it done this weekend.

Judging from the limited amount of action in this thread, I assume the calendar is good as it is.

Can you all double check the sanction status?

Also, it surprising that allocated Primes were not used up. I guess we need to reduce those quotas for next year. Maybe even the Mains to get a little bit more pressure on those that really are Mains.

i do not agree

prime statuses were asked for french events (both Nantes & Isola), and asked many times.
One of them must get the remaining one.

Guillaume,
I thought that Nantes (at least) was OK as a Prime. I thought I saw it in a topic somewhere, but now returning to it I could see it was never confirmed.

Peter, Ramon, Dominik, can you please sort this out!
...and can we have a little bit faster process for next years statuses?

There are 70 events in this years calendar. Not bad.

That'll be an awful lot of results to handle - I just realized...

May I ask you to check the event status of each event as well. I would not be able to distinguish between Basic and Primes for example. I assume all the Mains (and the one and only Major) are already correct.

Steve, you seem to be in control, can you update the above topics.

Also, we need to know exactly which disciplines were held, so if the above announcements do not correspond to what was actually run, let me know.

I'm starting to realize what a major undertaking it is to get the ranking up-to-date. Corky used to do this on his own. I've now been here for several hours, just working on a small subtask...

I have added as many events as I could from here into the Slalomranking.com database, so they are now all available in that contest calendar. Notice that the event calendar on the front page only shows larger events. The complete listing is available under Events, then select 2009.

Now we have locate the results of all those events. I have added a - in front of all the events I added. Corky will change that once he gets the results. I think Corky has actually received some, but will see soon exactly what.

Oh, by the way. I feel like I'm talking to myself. It's very lonely in here. I have had no comment what so ever as to any updates that might be needed, so I just kept doing my thing.

ps. When we're done, I'm deleting all of these posts about the calendar update. But for now, I'd appreciate if you'd read them and help this thing keep on rolling.

Thanks!

I've done some work mostly on a European list today. I created a new topic in the Euro forum where I colored events green/red according to the eventstatus that I had, or not. I've fired off some emails to get some help with that list.

I don't know the status of the US events, but if needed I'll do the same thing here. Rick, are you in control? Need any help from my side?

Jani - I am handling submitting results to corky only for the USA MAIN/MAJOR events:

Sizzler
US Nats
Worlds
Farm
Antrim (Mig M. possibly doing this one - emailed him to ask yesterday 12/13)
Dixie

Sizzler was sent to Corky yesterday, Nats tonight, hoping to do one each night this week.

#4 - Ditch Slap was all banked slalom and one sort of cross-country race. No "standard" ISSA slalom disciplines as currently defined.

#5 - Lookout Mountain/Buffalo Bill Downhill was a downhill race only. No slalom.

Antonio... do you think we can not seriously give a main status to a 1 day race which move from GBG to stokholm on the last time, without clear announcement on forum (only topic i found is " Swedish Championship September", announced 2 day before the race :D ) ?

I agree with Giullame. I wanted on this contest, but sometimes in september ??

ISSA rules :
Time advance rule
The whole idea with the current World Ranking status/point system is that racers will know the status of the competitions before they plan there travel. We can’t expect that all racers can enter all competitions during the season so it’s important to be able to plan in advance. The higher the status the more important it is for racers to know in advance. Since no such limits have been used before they are not very hard. Here are the minimum limits on how much in advance a competition with a certain status should be set and decided.

Major: 4 months
Main : 3 months
Prime: 2 months
Basic: 1 month
Plain: (no time advance needed)

i have heard about a main race in sweden all summer... when we was in Policka, nothing was still fixed!
look at the European forum : topic has been created few days after Policka, announcing only a "Swedish Championship"
it can t work like that if you want foreign racers in main event.

Update to event list: The Epic International Skate Festival is missing from the list. It was held September 18th at Bethel Colege (Mishawaka), IN and is listed on the contest calender as Prime. The organizer was Peter Metzger. or does this just mean you already have the results? Thanks again.
I'll try looking into all of this tomorrow, or in the worst case towards the end of the week.
Keep your comments coming. I've also had a pm from Ramon with some info.

The paradox with this year with a somewhat low activity is that we have a chance of making it the biggest year so far in terms of number of events.

Keep up the good work of sending in the results!
Corky is working in the background, so keep it up, and he'll include all we can get in.

Hello everyone, sorry that I chime in like this but here are my thoughts on this.

The swedish championships of 2009 should be at most a prime status event. This due to the level of the race, ie the sponsors, racers, different classes, number of days of racing and how far ahead it was announced (less than a month). And lets face it if there was no application sent in - bummer, no ISSA status - no ISSA points.

The main status event that was announced by Peter in april was (I believe) a way of trying to make up for the low number of main races this year in a hope of being able to host a race in stockholm during June. However there was never any real attempts of creating this race more than writing on this forum, not even an race application have been sent in. If you would find one then it would state Stockholm as the venue and June as the month and not Gothenburg and September. Peter is one of my best friends and I really appreciate all he do for this sport, but being a status marshal and sanctioning your own events is perhaps not the best thing to do. Especially if there is no real chances of the race happening or if you sanction statuses outside the given set of rules of how and when it should be done.

About the status of a race. A status can of course not be moved to another race. A race can be cancelled and another race can apply for a certain status, but you cannot just apply for a status with a wildcard date and venue. This goes for all races and all records that are made during these races. Otherwise you can apply for a race in january and session every day until you break a record and then you sanction the race afterwards thus making the record valid. I realize this is a problem since we do not conform to these rules at the moment, as an example Gustavs 50 cone record should have been considered invalid since it was announced less than a month prior to the race (actually less than a week) but is now the current record.

But that is only what I think, and I'm not really that into slalomskateboarding anymore.

Marcus,

Thank you for your information and general comments. I completely agree with you on all points. I have set the Swedish Championships as Basic everywhere. It was already like that at www.slalomranking.com.

I have updated the calendar above and in the Euro forum, and on the slalomranking site.

Thanks also for providing all the results, in the right file format, for all the races you've organized this year!

The problem this year was that the sanctions where so late, nobody knew what status a competition had until (in the best case) the last minute...

Sad to hear you "are not really that into slalomskateboarding anymore"

Silvio Endrizzi is doing an amazing work gathering results from all over. He just submitted results from the Conehead Cup in Australia and I should add those events to the above calendar so that we have a complete calendar for 2009 here.
