Notice of Race - South Hadley, MA 7/10/2010

Post by Rick Floyd » Sun Jun 13, 2010 8:36 pm

The South Hadley Skateboard 'n Hotdog Races and BBQ are scheduled for Saturday, July 10th, with a rain date of Sunday July 11th. There will be a sign-up form on the NCDSA website soon, PLEASE use it! Registration is from 10AM - 10:30AM, racer's meeting at 10:45, GS practice at 11AM. This is an "outlaw" race so there is a bust factor (3 out of 10) - for that reason, you must contact us for more info and directions to the event venue. Disciplines will be High Speed Giant Slalom, Banked Slalom, and a Kid's Slalom race.

All races will be single-lane, electronically timed, with each racer getting two runs per discipline. Our timing system was designed and programmed by a Doctor and a NASA Space Shuttle Astronaut...really! It records times down to thousandths of a second. The GS course is 750 feet long and Banked Slalom about 600 feet long. The GS course will have about 30 cones, and the Banked Slalom will start with plywood banks/ramps with cones on them and then pass under a "low bridge" into a slalom course with a small jump ramp in the middle. The Kid's Slalom race course will be set lower down the hill. The GS and Kid's Slalom will be push starts, and the Banked Slalom will use a small wooden start ramp. The race road has very good pavement - about a 7 out of 10 - and is located in a residential neighborhood. It starts fairly flat and straight, follows a gentle right curve down a short but fairly steep section, then ends in a gradually flattening straightaway. It is very lightly traveled. Top speeds in the GS are expected to be about 30mph, and about 20mph for the Banked Slalom. There is a flat runout - no foot braking required but can be used if riders are comfortable doing so. A "B-class" push-start (GS ONLY) will be available for those who find the full-length hill too daunting. Slalom and GS Classes will be Open A and B, with trophies for the top three places in each class, and trophies for the top three places in the Kid's Slalom. All racers will be required to sign a release form, and those under 18 must also have a parent or guardian sign.

I'm going. I signed up. Lindsey says she'll hit this one too.

That's a pretty scary/nice corner from the top of the hill, can't wait to see the terrain "extras".

The fact that this happens in that serene, suburban neighborhood is interesting unto itself in terms of promoting the sport.

I'll bring all the video stuff again :-)

I think it's Dr. Dan's, if I'm not mistaken.

Hmmm, A Smith grind might tap it out, no clearance for a board slide, not vert enough for an invert, -Ollie?
Yeah, Ollie would be the ticket. Damn, I need a kicktail on my hybrid deck!

Nice looking ramp Dan!

Is the banked course going to have some Farmeggedon style box obstacles?

Have a Happy 4th,
Terry

Thanks, DR Dan and family. It was a great day, fast GS and fun banked slalom. It was great meeting some new friends and seeing some old ones. I think all of the new guys got a taste of the SLALOM addiction. We need to get them out again and set the hook in deep. They all show some talent and could be knocking on the NE ranking list before long.

Kudos to you, Dr.Dan, and your family for making this great day possible. I impressed by the east coast hospitality and the warm welcome to new riders.
You really set the hook deeply and it's for sure you'll see my again.
Thank you also to my 'sponsors', Glenn and Dr.Dan!
ciao.

Yes yes! What a sweet race, nice day! Good choice on Sunday, no threat of rain at all - WIN!

THANKS to our hosts, Dan and Carol, the whole scene was welcoming to the kids, all the new racers, and us cranky old guys too.

The Snake Run was a hit! Not too big, not too small, just right. Silly and scary at the same time, and I take some pride in being the first and only casualty. I crash every time I skate this year, it's kinda my new "schtick."

I chirped my back wheels every GS run but the last one, still grooving on placing 3rd (as opposed to last) in that event.

I declare and maintain that the B Group and kids races are the most important of them all, getting the seeds in the ground is what the NESRA series is about. We did that right on Sunday, and I'm proud to have been a part of that.

I'll see if I can squeeze in NEz Zep-RAce IV before Home and Harvest, on the 202 hill, hear it calling my name...

Thanx guys! I had a great time too.
It was especially nice to see so many kids and few skaters participating.
I'll get the details and results up soon.

Till then, here's Lauren's video of the event:
