Barry,
Goofyfoot is originally a surfing term to describe a surfer that surfs with their "right" foot forward. Regular-Foot is with the left foot forward.
This term has been adapted by all other board-sports from the original surfing usage.

...in most of my skids on slalom boards, wrist, elbow, shoulder, head, hip and knee. Most of the damage is on the leading side, right side if you are a goofy foot versa visa.
Knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a good helmet are a minimum.
Be careful and have fun.

All of them do. Sometimes a fall can be predicted and a knee slide can then be conciously executed. On the other end of the mishap spectrum, a fall could be nearly instantaneous, and then you won't know what saved you until after the fact.
