Re: DH
Photographically speaking, though, that photo of you is a very striking image--well lit, dynamically composed, clear face shot, etc.Gary Fluitt wrote:Front page of the Sports, there I am in taking turn three in my dorky leathers and all my slowness.
I bet Dan G. is happy with it, too.
And the guy with the most F'ed-up haircut sometimes wins it. K-Rimes, WTF?Never fails that the biggest kook in the race gets the cover shot in the paper.

Save the Date!
Things are really shaping up with my potential event in late August! I've had numerous emails/phone calls with city officials, skatepark managers, soapbox derby associations, and so forth. We are in progress on a face-to-face meeting to hammer out the details and set a date.
Potential itinerary:
Day 1-
* Park slalom at a concrete park less than 1 mile from the SBD track
* Slalomcross event at the SBD track
Day 2-
* TS/HS/GS events
I'm working on the weekend of Aug 21st or Aug 28th. There is already the Ft. Wayne, IN event on Aug 14th, so I am leaning towards the later of the dates. This is going to be cool! More official info to come...

The NESRA Burlington Bomb races went off without a hitch. I just posted an article, photos and all results, including downloadable full results spreadsheets, on the Burlington Bomb page at http://www.sk8racing.com/bbomb.html

Finally picked up a new helmet after destroying my old one in a crash. Hopefully the rain holds out- I've been itching to run some cones!

Oregon State Games
Weather looks good for the weekend -- partly sunny and 70F predicted.
Received a HUGE box of helmets and a couple of complete skateboards from RAZOR to sponsor the kids races.
Field of racers is shaping up nicely with Richy, Brad, Stryker, Kramer, Ravitch, Jonny Miller, Skip, Kevin D, Tay Hunt, and the other usual suspects from CA, WA, and OR
In case anyone missed it: SATURDAY's EVENTS START AT 2pm (or so) and continue to 9PM due to a schedule conflict on the soap box derby hill. There is light until 9pm so no worries.
I hope I will see YOU at the 2010 Oregon State Games!

SEISMIC WORLD CUP
Seismic World Cup Update:
Because we believe we will have lots of time in the schedule, we are considering DOUBLE and possibly TRIPLE ELIMINATION racing at the SEISMIC WORLD CUP. This will give you the chance to race more racers in you class, and have more runs. Will be testing out the format in advance to have a solid test on how long it takes to run a triple elimination bracket of 8 racers.
Team races - Just for fun we will also be running teams as part of the regular eliminations. You will be named to a team after qualifying, and prior to racing, and the team with the highest number of points at the end of the day will win the Team race category. Not sure what criteria we're going to use for the categories, but it wont be regional, (e.g. COSS, SSS, Cascades, etc.), and likely not MFG (e.g. Pavel, Roe, etc.). Open to ideas on categorization.
Grudge Matches will be encouraged after racing is concluded. These will be $1 a race per racer, all the money goes into a pot that we're going to donate to Judi Oyama & Gary Holl's Board Rescue (boardrescue.org)

But on the memberlist it says I am # 18. Guess that means three peopel who registered before me logged out and stayed gone.

I've deleted users regularly since becoming a Mod in '03. It's either spammers or skaters who won't use their real name. Some of you have got the PM. Three days and no change and ZAP! Outta here. So it's easy for me to understand why there are 1498 registered users but the profile number is over 1600+.

Re: SEISMIC WORLD CUP
This is GREAT news for a noobie racer like myself.
So if I decide to pony up the registration $$$, at least I'll get more than two runs per discipline just to finish DFL. (That is if I don't DQ every run )

Because we believe we will have lots of time in the schedule, we are considering DOUBLE and possibly TRIPLE ELIMINATION racing at the SEISMIC WORLD CUP. This will give you the chance to race more racers in you class, and have more runs. Will be testing out the format in advance to have a solid test on how long it takes to run a triple elimination bracket of 8 racers

Hey Gary, you might want to try ZERO ELIMINATION racing like we just did at the Oregon State Games (for the slalomcross). Here are the results:Gary Fluitt wrote:Seismic World Cup Update:

Notice that nobody is eliminated. Notice also some exciting race pairings as Kevin Delaney takes on John Ravitch, Jordan Houtari, and Richy Carrasco to move from 3rd to 1st place.
Basically works like this:
2-run qualifying.
1-run pairings (top of pair chooses lane)
Pairings done 1-2 3-4 5-6 etc.
Winner move up one complete pair
Loser moves down one complete pair.
In the finals, you are racing for places 1-2 3-4 ... etc.
All races are more evenly matched than in the elimination bracket style where you have 1st place head-to-head with 32nd place.

Isn't this ladder bracketing? The DHB used to do that at their jam sessions.Pat Chewning wrote:Hey Gary, you might want to try ZERO ELIMINATION racing like we just did at the Oregon State Games (for the slalomcross). Here are the results:Gary Fluitt wrote:Seismic World Cup Update:
