DC 2003 SUMMER OUTLAW SLALOM SERIES
Moderators: Jonathan Harms, Ron Barbagallo, Maria Carrasco, Russel Cantor, Lynn Kramer, Brian Parsons
ideas for winter.....
- instead of a "longboard" course call it a "beginner" course which would be doable on a slalom board and a longboard, any board for that matter. Let the faster guys conehead and give advice to the newbies on the course. This course could also be a spec class course. Maybe you even run the spec class within the "beginner course" (like GT LeMan's racing, multiple classes on the same course) and kill a few birds with one stone.
- Have a "pro" course that all are welcome to run but only the top 8 qualify for. For the course setting draw straws of those who volunteer to set the course.
I wuld like to see more difficult courses at the DC races. I think the fast guys are ready for it and the ideas above accomodate all skill levels which makes it open for all to enjoy.

Sorry Wes, but THIS WEEKEND is not good.
The next DC Outlaw race will be on Saturday October 11th. This will be a good warm up for the WV race.
I will skate this weekend if anyone wants to run cones or skate round wall.
Tentative Schedule for the Winter Series
November 1st. 2003
November 22nd 2003
January 17th, 2004
February 7th, 2004
February 28th, 2004
March 20th, 2004
Please let me know if these look OK.
Also, lets start some discussion about how we can make the series better. I think we have the race format down.
But can you guys offer up some ideas on:
Longboard racing – P&R is kind of lame for longboards. It is really hard to set a good longboard course there.
Spec Class – I would still like to do this.
Course - TS/Hybrid – Usually we set around 50 cones. Should we up it to 70-80 cones.
Anything else you guys can think about to make things better.

We’ll have one for Jani too, but we should have one THIS WEEKEND.
Jani, don’t forget about the Fayettville, West Virginia race on Sunday, October 19.
Wes, is it your first time on caffein or what?

Wes,
I'm half afraid to ask, but why does it have to be THIS WEEKEND? Some of the DC Outlaws are just getting back from California, and some of us need more than 3 days notice to travel to DC.
I vote for the 11th, as a good warmup for Fayetteville.

Yea, I thought a few people would be electronicly challenged today. I will call everyone I have numbers for.
Since the weather is going to be nice tomorrow, I hate to lose another weekend.
The storm was weak out here in Leesburg.
I never lost power. Never lost my DTV signal.
I hope everyone else fared as well.

Brian,
If you run the traditional slalom first, is that going to give the out-of-town racers from New York/New Jersey/New England time to get to the race? Doesn't matter to me, but think it might affect their participation.

The race is on tomorrow. We will do the traditional slalom first so practice will start at 10am and the race will start around 11:00.
Sorry for getting this out so late. I have been out of pc contact for most of the day.
See you guys tomorrow. I hope all is well with everyone.
Hope the Morris's rode the storm out with no problems. Va Beach took a beating.

Whadda 'ya mean, Brian? FAITH is why it's steering north and missing ME! :razz:On 2003-09-15 14:23, Brian Parsons wrote:

Hey, let's be honest: when it comes to hurricanes, it's every man for himself BEFORE it hits and we'll all pull together and make things better AFTER it leaves!!
Oh, the good news is that as predicted it is losing a little strength as it gets to colder waters. Latest from the hurricane plane has the winds down from 160 mph to 130 mph. It's currently a Class 4 storm, down from a 5 over the weekend.

Wesley, you have no faith. That thing is going to spin north and die in the North Atlantic giving TK killer waves for the week leading up to Morro Bay.
LBK, Ohm, Slappy, How about a surf trip to OC this weekend? It’s guaranteed to be overhead. Might be a little choppy and closed out but there calling for 25 ft+.
In all seriousness, this storm is huge. Easterners be safe. Pray for clean surf after this thing unloads.

Do y'all really think you'll get in a race this Saturday?

It's a safe bet that even if serious damage is avoided, there will still be a good chance that many of y'all being without electricity. Also, don't forget that all those people who will evacuate will start to head home on Saturday. Imagine that traffic jam on every interstate. The Governor of North Carolina has ordered Ocracoke Island evacuated TODAY.
I recommended by e-mail to Brian that maybe this race would work best in early October between the World's and West Virginia.

Lucky for you Parsons I cannot make it on the 20th. It is Trevors birthday. Unless.....you run the Slalom first and start earlier than normal. The party starts at 3pm! Think about it.
Sunday session is on. I have been waiting to ride this secret little spot. Isn't Tims' spot flat? Good for 100 cone course?
Let me know about sunday. I will send out directions.

Wes, Surfing in the rain by and large is a personal decision. Some surfers do not like the sensation of rain pelting them about the head and neck area while others don't mind at all. They're wet anyway right! One thing I would advise against is surfing during lightning storms. If you see lightning just get out of the water. TK

OK, In the spirit of getting as many racers as possible to our Summer series FINALS.
I will postpone the race until next Saturday the 20th.
If this decision creates major problems for some of you let me know. It is hard for me to make these calls. I just hate for guys to drive hours only to have to turn around a drive home in the rain.
Chris I hope you can pursuade Lisa and crew, Ilva and more of your NRA brethern to make the trip with you.
For local DCers I think a good practice session is in order for Sunday if it is dry. Maybe we could skate Tim's spot.
