Tod, it was a pleasure to meet you and ride with you. Goad's description is spot-on. You were killing it, especially on Saturday. Fellow readers, this Oles guy has got some good flow, and he likely has at least one more gear that will learn to engage as well. When he beats you--and he probably will--remember you heard it here first.

Jeremy Jones: If you saw him in Mississippi, you didn't see him at his best--in the race itself, that is. The aftermath is another matter entirely. :-) But he stayed upright in this race long enough to make the top two--on a 27" (maybe) vintage Bahne laminate kicktail deck with (maybe) a 15" wheelbase. If he ever decided to ride a "real" slalom board, there'd likely be no catching him.

"Chainsaw" McCullar and Jon Seeger both took a digger or two on Sunday, but they have both improved a lot since last year--as has Paul Graf. Thanks to Jeff for turning me on to his metal Seismic and to Jon for the new, killer practice spot in the county that helped me dial in my own setup on Friday.

Goad and 66 set a killer, fun, fast, flowing hybrid course on Saturday, and Sunday's course, though not as long as last year's, was still a lung-burner and a really fun challenge. I hope we can pull off another race this year so that more people can experience the fun of this hill. I ran 90A front and 85A rear and had only a couple of chirps all weekend. The surface is that good.

Thanks to all who came, thanks to Goad for making it all happen, to Mary for her patience and perseverance on the timekeeping system, to Garrett and his girls for coneheading, and thanks to 66 for the extra hundred $$$ ! Now I can buy some elbow pads that won't fall down. Yee-haw.

I've found that when racing my shadow..If I find a hill facing the sun,I always WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I've yet to catch up and pass it when the hill is away from the sun! I'm tired and wet and smelly...ga'nite!

Was super stoked to finally be racing something other than my shadow.
I put everything I had into that hybrid course. Jonathan is just more GOODER! =) Way to go JBH!!

We want to thank everyone who came out for Saturdays hybrid race. It was a jam format with about 3 hours on the course. Best times for the day as follows:

Harms.......27.193
Tod O........27.273
66.............28.401
Goad.........28.976
Seeger.......29.768
Chainsaw....30.920
Jeremy........31.684


Tod was killing the course all day. His times just kept getting better and better. Jonathan was on his tail run after run but could not close the gap. All were beat from the long course and the walk back up the hill. The day looked over, until Jonathan gave it one more run, he must have wanted it bad because he beat his own time by .600 and that was enough to take it all. Great job Jonathan. Tod you showed great skill i thought that the race was going to be all yours.

Whew!! After gettin chased by 2-3 tornados I made it home with my swag intact!!

Leo, You’re not the only one watching this race from the computer. Although I might’ve been there, had more advanced notice been given.

See you at DaFarm, Leo, maybe? It’s in early August, and relatively near NYC. A two-day race this year. The best Farm race yet, I predict.


Yo, Harms! Don’t pay that 66 any worry. But just in case, bring him one of those White Castle milkshakes disguised as a sports-shake. After drinking that, his interest will be less about beating you to the line and more about beating bodily functions to the bathroom!

damn st louis race was a funny weekend.

We are asking anyone who will be attending the race to please e-mail or call so that we can get a head count for beer and barbeque supplies. The weather here has been unpredictable so we have secured a parking garage at the city museum for the race should the weather force us inside.

Memorial Weekend Race

Saturday afternoon we will be practicing on the race hill, single lane no timer. Same hill with a different course set up. The road will be open to the public so it will be fairly low key. The barbeque party will start sometime around 4ish and will be wrapping up around 9.

Sunday, racers meeting starts at 10. Practice to follow meeting. Racing will commence at 11ish.

The course will be the same hill that we ran last year but we will move the start farther down the hill to avoid the tiny little upwards grade at the beginning of the course. We will also be cutting the course shorter to avoid the hard 90-degree turn at the end of the course. That will be our run out. It will be a dual lane slalom course with about 60 or 70 cones.

Cost for all this fun $10

St. Louis Memorial weekend race

We have just received final permission to hold a race again in Tower Grove Park this year. The park has two events booked for Memorial Day weekend, our race and a kickball tournament. So as a side note know that the run out area will be cramped. Due to this a shorter course may be necessary for safety’s sake. As planned we will be having an open practice on the hill all afternoon on Saturday May 29th followed by a barbeque party Saturday night at the pavilion on the race site. The following day, which is Sunday the 30th, the hill will be closed for our racing pleasure. My apologies for such short notice, anyone who can squeeze a trip in for the race will be welcome. At this time there are no prize sponsors but I will see what I can do. Cash prize goes to the top 3 racers. Right now we are looking to hold another race on September 25th & 26th. All the parks roads are closed that time of year. That will enable us to run two separate races on two independent hills in the park, one on Saturday and a different one Sunday. I will be posting more info soon.
