results

Post by Marty Schaub » Tue Nov 08, 2005 2:24 am

I just TT Marion. He is suffering from post stoke OD withdrawls. He said that full results will show by the end of the week. Be kind, he was suffering the shakes from the DT's today....Give the man time to recover.

If you look up the word "Stoke" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of Marion and his happy crew of DHB's.

Everything posted here about the race, I second! The camraderie at this event reminded me of the 2001 Worlds.

An absolutely amazing weekend.

All I can add is, you better sigh up early next year!

A big thank you to my employer, Mark McCree, for making it possible for me to race in these events.

Dixie Cup video

Post by Ron Olsen » Tue Nov 08, 2005 1:34 am

Here's all the video I got over the weekend. You'll notice large gaps, I got busy racing and didn't get to shoot any. Almost no GS runs recorded...but...I did get Marion's Downhill runs included:

http://65.6.149.248/dixiecup.htm

The link for the video is down at the bottom of the page.

If anyone want's to post this on a web host somewhere, you have my permission.

Chris,

The link worked perfectly, which says a lot about Civ's computer & skills.

I was looking for a pic of the brat though.

Hey Canadian Chris...your link works great....for all the talk of hobby hill....picture number 122 says it best....before you think it's "any old hill"...those 4 cones on the left hand side on the bottom (across from the guy with the red shirt, jeans and white hat) are on flat land.....that gives a great shot of the pitch of this hill....insane.

what a friggin riot

what a race

the DHB's pulled off a grand slam at the end of the season

thanks again guys

BOOM!!!!!

Post by Marty Schaub » Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:06 pm

Man it took three showers to get all of the stoke that exploded Friday, Saturday & Sunday. What an absolute ball. From the Freak Bros. running a great outlaw to that Saturday race thet NO ONE will ever forget being at (How can you forget .006?) to the Sunday GS at Hobby to watching our host THROW IT DOWN in the downhill.

I wish you could have all seen Marion's face when he saw that he was not in first after the first run of the downhill. The resolve it showed left me no doubt that he was going big. He did and no one could touch the time. MAN that was awesome!!!!!!!!

Quote of the weekend. "This hill is like an orgasm.....It feels so good but it's over so quick.." Compliments of our 1st place winner Noah. I about fell out of my chair on that one....

There is so much to talk about. Any body else got any favorite quote? And how about MC Mollica? I haven't stopped laughing about Marion Berry since Saturday!

The coolest thing is that I am a "Legacy"

It was great to see all of the old friends and make new ones too. Let's see what everyone else thought.

Yah, this race was all about class. From a letter from the mayor, to a helicopter flyby, a punk rock mosh pit, the pre-packaged pickle, all night skating at a completely occupied hotel, to the honorable sportsmanship of one Tod Oles. Class, class, class.

I can't explain how much stoke I feel from this race. Sludging through the long hard winter is gonna be that much more painfull after hobby park! Thanks a freakin busload Marion you can bet I (and most likely the rest of the canucks) will be back next year!

I'm uploading my pictures to my server, and I'll post em when done.

Dudes,
I am not stressing over the points thing...just find the whole thing surreal. This is our first race, in a town that has never seen a race, with a bunch of guys putting it together who have never seen a race, and we have riders coming in from 18 states, over 30 sponsors, city government support, city park and rec support (in two cities), 50 competitors, basically every Canadien slalom skater, moonshine jugs for trophies, a bunch of other crazy shit, and a freakin international discussion over the points status of the race.....Dudes, I am just waiting on the guy with the backpack from the Twilight Zone to come around the corner any time........

Stoke to the max I am....stoked to the freakin MAX!

A quick SERIOUS note:

I spoke with NCL this morning and everything is done with the start ramps. According to Marion, they are sweet and fluid. These are "S" ramps following Ricky Byrd's plans. One hitch, though, developed as time got tight and it was felt by the management they really needed to be painted.

So MRS. MARION KARR (Donna) took it upon herself to grab a paint brush and bucket and do the job yesterday. So everyone please be so kind this weekend to let Donna know how much appreciation there is for her last-minute nose-to-the-grindstone effort to make sure everything for this weekend is JJJUUUSSSSTTTT PERFECT!

Thanks, Donna.

Joe,

Last time I got into a "grudge match," I beat Brewington at Morro Bay . . . and ended up not skating for almost six months with a banged up shoulder!

Sure, I guess anything is possible.

Wesley,

At the Farm race, you beat my Padewan learner, Mike "The Duke" Duquette for your D group victory.

Mike has asked if it's possible to request a "High Noon" re/grudge match on Saturday in Statesville.

Is that possible?

Joe

You smell that? Do you smell that?... Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Dont lose too much sleep over it Marion.....a good race isnt dependent on the "status" anyway...good people...a good venue...keeping the action moving....a good party...that's all the stuff that makes up a good race...all you can do is state your case on the status level and if it doesnt work out, no problem......
Seriously...
With all that you've put into this weekend....and with the weather cooperating....i really dont think anybody's going to walk away and say "Man, that would have been a great weekend if only it made a prime status".......

It's going to be a great weekend even if there were NO points involved

Potential Simple Solution

Post by Robert Sydia » Thu Nov 03, 2005 3:57 pm

Marion:

I know you are stressing over this, brother - maybe we have a simple solution:

Have each competitor send Corky (or whoever makes the final decision) an e-mail stating the fact that WV was cancelled, that you had be planning the event all summer long and all skaters from the United States and Canada were aware of it well before the "time cut off".

E-mails should only be sent once. If others want to send their support it should be welcomed. At the end-of-the-day, Corky may receive 100 e-mails requesting consideration for the event - in this small community - it should be enough to get the race classified for World points.

Let the masses speak and be heard.

Just my 2 cents

Rob

P.S. Stoked to the max and the plane leaves tomorrow

Man, the pressure to upgrade our points status is heating up. Now it has spilled over to the European 2006 thread....Donald Campbell, Pavel Skates. is throwing his support behind our need to be Prime and is also one of our first committed sponsors to the Dixie Cup! Donald and Pavel Skates were very early in support of our race.
We support the work he is doing in Europe and his Worlds proposal.

Weather

Post by Robert Sydia » Wed Nov 02, 2005 4:01 pm

I am so psyched about the race and now the weather forecast.

Just completed running a session at the freezing mark, cheap cones shattering due to temperature, fingers and toes freezing.

The weather in NC is going to be like a trip to Hawaii, but with a larger hang-over.

See everyone in 2 days.

All the best,

Rob

NOW, it's time to start paying attention:

Statesville:
Friday (24 hours): More sun than clouds. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the high 40s.
Saturday (24 hours): Times of sun and clouds. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 50s.
Winston-Salem
Sunday (24 hours): Partly cloudy. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 50s.

Can you dig it? It's not even gonna be cold Friday night for the not-so-outlaw Outlaw.

Completely groovy, man!
