Flyering for contests locally.

i suggest speaking with greg fadell,he has some of the sickest shots,but,he is not for free.he is reasonable,maybe you can barter with him for pics.he has THE best shots,talent unsurpassed.i think if he wanted to take a pay cut,he would be the best skate photog of our times.cf

So we need a cool shot of a skater going through cones- A shot of a long Board or a bunch of people with long boards holding them up so people see its a huge gang of skaters to join.

Then a list of dates and a mapquestable location..Maybe there should be "tear offs?"

Best if the Poster is somewhat suitable for many different venus with just a place to paste a mapquest location and perhaps dates.

That way people have no excuse not to forget to post them up. We just have a template for an 8 x 11 sheet of paper with directions. Perhaps you just fill in the dates with a Sharpie marker in another area.

There must be a better way. - Maybe small cards with mini direction and a list of the places. ideally a refrigerator magnet.

I am currently working on a poster and flyier to hang around town a couple weeks in advance of our race.


Not nearly as classy as what we did for Boston 03, pieces of cardboard boxes taped to trees with black sharpie writing "PRO SKATEBOARD RACE ---->".

I, of course, produced 50 11 x 17 Full Color flyers that Marion distributed throughout the local area promoting the Down Here Retreat.

Marion also has a stack of my brochures that he has left around at the local skate shops. I've also put out a few here and there.

IMHO all of our high tech slalom gear is nearly worthless unless we have competitions to look forward to. Hopefully there will be new names and faces in these competitions.

So how to get the word out?

I suggest that for every contest series that you produce...and I strongly encourage promoters to coordinate with each other to form SERIES by working together AND to make series dates, so we can post up a flyer for a series.

Everytime you go to a skate shop to buy shoes (A regular event) you should bring a flyer with you to post up about our race series.

I also strongly encourage all local series to have a longboard hill bomb- and longboard slalom event. And to crown a local longboard slalom champion at the end of the series.

Just run the long baords on the Hybrid or GS course. Shouldn't take too long.

Also I think SS.com should find someone who is good with layout to help make regional posters so there is a nice template that is easy to use.

Emphasize the food aspect- and families are welcome. You'll find support from families and parents who will help seed highschools for a team.


We should also have someone fax a flyer off to shops....then call about 2 weeks later and ask if there are any contests...(We will find out then if the flyer was posted or tossed.) If no one in the shop knows about it....fax another flyer.

The manufacturers have the best idea of what shops are buying gear...they are the shops with our future racers.


So- for instance...if you went TODAY into Purple Skunk skate shop in SF....would you see ANY info on the wall or bulletin board about contests?????

Series are the best because the flyer will stay up ALL season.
