Good call. And it helps test fitness and concentration. I'm not the biggest fan of short courses; their results are often dictated by start-power rather than skating ability.

Yup, if there is no ramp start its just a race to the first cone with not enough distance to catch up. We should be working towards getting our courses in line with what is happening in mainland Europe and the USA...no point getting to Europe and having to stop half way down for Tea and Tiffin, or knowing our lot, a pint, a fag (cigarette to any yanks reading) and a shot of oxygen!

Just a suggestion Sam, but to put less strain on the timing set-up, if the course was pretty long, that should leave a bigger gap between people...

Fast and sketchy, that Petersfield hill! If you're gonna go balls out, then its best to take 'em all out, leave them in a small sac at the top of the hill, grind the slope and come back for 'em later. AHAARGHH ME HEARTY, JUS' DROP THE EYE-PATCH DOWN BELOW!

Cool! Have to say I wasn't too keen on the surface at the original Petersfield gravel road....fine if you are Downhilling, but not if you intend to turn!
But then....to turn is to admit defeat!!!!!

Here's the race brief:

Saturday 21st July 2:00pm.

This will be a single lane hybrid GS with speeds approaching 20mph.

Entry will be £5.00 with all proceeds going towards www.skatenewzealand.com.

The surface is smooth, but with a couple of drain covers to test the unwary. The slope is shallow like the longer training hill at Hillingdon cycle track only without the strong Heathrow breeze!

Racers will cone-marshall on the way up to the start.

Timing will be simple, using VHF radios and stopwatch. If the reception is poor then a flag will be waved to indicate the start.
Being an outlaw race, there is no provision for insurance, so safety gear will be strongly recommended. Consider also carrying easily accessible personal details in case you knock youself senseless.
For those racing, a helmet must be worn.
Parking is at the bottom of the slope.
