Shirts from the Race?

Post by Martin Drayton » Fri Aug 31, 2007 9:44 am

Paul price very kindly gave me a shirt from the event and it is my favourite shirt to slalom in! I was wondering if you had any left from the event in medium that you would be willing to sell or swap for a large "Showdown on Main Street" Race shirt from the Park City race graphics designed by Judi Oyama? http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/phpBB ... php?t=4178 see poster.
I am going to Grenoble so could do the swap/purchase there....
Thanks,

Flume, Holger? No. I wanted to try it out, but under the instruction of Team Leader Price and Wing Commander Reiss we had to try out the four most extreme rides in twenty minutes before heading to the airport. Bragging rights, apparently.

Not wanting to do any of the rides, I was duped into a weird queuing system for the fast food store:

These Swedes have the most rapid damn Drive Thru' I ever seen.

By the way, don't tell Peter, but in the UK it would appear that a certain Mr. Kindler gained the Numero Uno position in Gothenburg:

My belated chance to say thankyou to all of the organisers for making sure that we were looked after and catered for at every turn. From large scoreboards for the public to view racers' progress to remote monitors for enthusuiastic finishers; from a competitors' tent for racer kit which included water and bananas, to external facilities including stalls catering for food, equipment and WCs; from well made ramps and fully railed-off race area, even collection from the airport, reasonably priced onsite accommodation and post-race hostelry; right down to excellent challenging courses and fast, tough decisions as to race layout given the constant threat of poor weather, not forgetting the provision of a great website and broad marketing and media coverage so as to spread the stoke. Great work from the Gothenburg team!

Image Image

http://www.flickr.com/photos/samg/sets/ ... 398880761/

And a special thanks to Ingo who not only attempted ramps and a fast GS course on his first race, but also ferried the UK team around Gothenbug and rescued us in the rain. He'll be a big race threat next year!

Thanks again,

Sam

P.S. Yes, the Liseburg Park did scare me senseless. And I only went to Burger King.

I also wanted to say BIG THANKS to all organizers ! It was the best race I have ever entered! Yesterday me and my father we were in radio and we spoke about Gothenburg event (results, emotions etc.). There were also few posts about latvian slalomer results in Gothenburg Slalom World cup.
I hope that there will be also big event in Gothenburg next year because this year it was FANTASTIC. I think that I don't need to write all good things about this event - EVERYTHING was perfect !
Hope to see you all in Jurmala and I hope also next year in Gothenburg!

thanx

the swedish weather. especially in Gothenburg is better in august, so maybe.. next years contest should be held later during the season?
I agree on speeding up the rounds etc...
I would like to see a big sponsor like Swatch or Longines.. so you'll be able to use the same system as slalomskiers, and track and field athletes use...that might speed things up, even though Corky is fast with his fingers...
and also e better communication system between starter, cone-officials etc...
but I still think the audience understood and had a good time watching the racers.. etc..

Thanks to all who helped making this event, and in special Emrik, Micke, Henke, Yoda and Corky. In my opinion the best this far!

To name a few thing we had great courses, fast surface, super ramps, exciting competition, lots of very close racing, trusty coneheads, available results, super nice park, media coverage en masse, lots of audience, racers area, entertaining speaker (great PA), schwag/cash to most, smart position of the start tape, great events around and lots of other things that made it a super event.

Those who missed it hopefully get to experience it next year!

Two things that could be even better next time is the weather and the tempo between rounds/races. Sometimes the racing was down too long for people in the audience to understand what was going on. Still we got in so much racing that we got to do special qual two times and a whole day of just bonus racing

I haven't got to many pics, and close to none slalomrelated,
but here they are.

I wonder if the racers know that there is no beam to reach for... And Janis if you should lift the front wheels, do it at the start ;)

PS:

Good media coverage (TV&Newspaper)
Good results publishment (quick and on the official homepage! Plus info mail!)

Furthermore:
Asking for feedback right after the contest. Very progressive.

Waiting for the pictures. ;-)

I'm still in Sweden enjoying my kind of vacation on a small island now. We've just been cruising around in a small boat.
Nice landscape.
Nice funpark. (The five-man-family-boat splash)
Nice food. (Mmmh yoghourt! Mmhh fish!)
Nice girls. (blond?)
Nice accommodation (;-))
Nice nightlife (right Dom?)
Nice organisation. (good decison have been made*)
Nice courses. (fast, technical stuff!)
Nice prizes. (Decks for every amateur, cash for 7 out of 12 pros.)
Nice mice rice.

Those who didn't show up really missed something!

Thanks a lot Emrik, Henrik, Mika and crew!

*Some decisions were hard to accept because some things that would have needed to be under a kind of hierarchy were not clear from the beginning. Like not counting the 1. final round of the GS after it had started to rain as the final results even though everyone had his run...

And in todays news:

"The best competition I've ever been to, says todays winner Marcus Seyffarth"
He was really cool, making two clean runs in the final against Ramon Königshausen. After a small lead in the first final run, he just controlled the second run, keeping an eye on his opponent.
Hmm, they made it sound as if he had a 1.5 sec advantage and could just cruise through the course. I bet it wasn't that easy!

I love the way Dominik is trying to speak swedish. I absolutely share his deep expressions about skateboarding, especially his first one....

And the TV-girl seems to dig it, too.
After the report she says something like: "....hili-ya, helliihi-ya....."

very interesting article, Jani...
I guess it says that this will be the biggest competition ever in skateboarding-history and that Gothenborg is awaiting all the best racers of this planet....no?

Btw. I liked the word "parallellbanan". Someone tell me what THAT means, please?

I am sorry I couldn't make it to Gothenburg. I got too much work right now and leaving my wife, the 2 boys and our 6 month old baby for 5 days (that was the cheapest flight) simply wouldn't be fair.

I gave my ticket to Dominik. I hope he has finally arrived. So better watch your daughters, sisters, wifes, girlfriends and... grandmas!

I wish you good luck for the weather. Have a good time and see you at another race!

And Dominik, if you are out there:
please bring me a "parallellbanan", o.k.?
Now rip!

I came in late to Gothenburg and passed the race site at midnight. There is a big screen on a small scene used for results. A tent set up for racers with free drinks and snacks. It looks really good. When you see the pics you will see. Those who choose not to come will be sad when they see it.

I think they are on to something big here. Now let's hope the weather will be on our side too. Right now it says rain Saturday evening and the whole Sunday. In my opinon it meens we should make use of friday evening for some timed GS practise... ;-)

Now I will have to sleep a couple of hours...

I just spoke to Corky and he said that the signs on the highway coming into Gothenburg announced that World Cup of Slalom Skateboarding was happening in town this weekend!

That is awesome!

And thats just the start. If I'm informed correct TV4 will have their local studio located at the site as well... Never seen that at a race before...
