Yes, Philippe the event organizer is planning to do a third event.
Still a Main Status, same spot for the GS, still in the city stadium for the thight/special races, and with some change in the dates because we would like to do the event under the sunshine yeah !!
(and avoid the toilets of the indoor spot, you're right Joyce...)

Ramon, what you are planning about would be for a fourth edition...
The GS will be the same, but the main avenue downtown that we had last year is really hard to close ! I'm not even talking about keeping apart the whole organization on three different spots.

The support that you got from a city is depending of the success of your event. I'm sure that all the riders who came enjoyed the week-end, but looking at the numbers of registrations it's not glorious for the credibility of a World Cup event of slalom skateboard.

And this year, despite the excellent event that we had, it was really a shame considering the numbers of riders, even if the whole event looked good...

And, Ramon, another thing where you could show the example : you and the 5 others riders who didn't bring back their number t-shirt can send them to the organization :

Thank you to all involved in this Desaxe-slalomskate contest and festival. It had all the makings of a nice festival. On the Sunday it was the best to see all the children of town playing skateboards and ramp. Back flips on bikes are also spectacular. Sandrine and Guilliame were good sports. Nice to see so many of my Facebook friends there at one table.
On the Saturday of the contest, inside at the warehouse, I got to see one of the filthiest toilets ever. The Ams were really battling it out. The round of 16 was intense. The skateboarding was fun, the vendors trying.
I got to see the Alps at Grenoble. I had a nice time in Amsterdam after. The plane stopped there so I got out for a few days.
At home I was missing the Board Meeting, although this year it was raining. They go anyways for a good time.
Next year?

Maybe yes, maybe not. From what I can tell you is that I just finished school (J'ai passé mon bac) and that I now have plenty of time to work for ISSA organisation. It's not a question of lacking experience, burden or age but it's a matter of motivation, which I have. And therefore I would like to apply for Status Marshall in 2009 also.

You are one of the best racer in the world but I can't listen only your point of you to make a slalom.(and believe me : I listen you as I listen everybody...you're just more nosie and insistant than the other) I have to consider the 40 others racers.

I see the point. It seems like the slalom (Pro) scene is twofold regarding the question of how courses should be set. There are specialists for GS and HS and there are specialists for TS. However, I hope we can solve that issue in an adequate way somehow. Maybe we can't.
I want to accept and respect less technical courses. But what I'd like to tell you is that what really fascinates and motivates me in our sport is the fast and technical change of direction in a demanding course. Moving my body instantly from one side to the other, not knowing if I'll make it or not. I'm having a hard time to understand people that are going for the so called "dry hump" (wide gates, pumping only).
But yeah, let's be patient and see what the future brings.

In Grenoble you were only 8 in pro class and I make a special for you. And only Janis and you can make it without penality. Finally I can read here you'd like it. This make me happy.

I'm sorry I forgot to tell you. It was well done indeed, and I really mean it! Thank you.

You must understand organizers are responsable of the security on the course area. At this moment we were really afraid of what could happen. You was angry that human but I'm sure you'll control yourself better next time. Remember the tennisman because he was angry, strike a ball through the court un kick a boy's ball , he apologized but was preclude immediatly of the tournament with a strong money penality. Tennis is so far from slalom skateboard. But know that people who stay neutral on public forum have bad opinion in private message about what happen this week-end.
Know that in downhill IGSA races, a black list exist with people unfair, dangerous, uncorect, who don't pay registration, lost always there bip number... Organizers are able to refuse them.

OK all is said Now For me this incident is closed.

Second Point.
You pass the special slalom with a giant board : Congratulations! when racers as Chris Hart, Paul Price our Manu Frei hit 8 cones. When racer as Robert Thiele (one of the best european AM) come to tell me the slalom was too difficult for AM and make me change it for them.
My only problem is that I want to make every racers happy and try to do my best for that.

It's may be now time to finish this sort of small war of gang. Very bad for the very fragile world of slalom. Only coming on this topic to criticism Grenoble (and before that, Antibes). Ok the stadium is flat and after that? Racers make a great show. The dual between Janis and Ramon was epic!
Unfortunatly rain kill our big giant!
I want peace for our sport. Anyway if it's Flat or stiff. Slalom need all of us, all those are working to organize with small or big possibility, with or without money. All these people merit the respect. We're all passioned people and it sometime make us react wrong.
I don't forget you put the best giant I ever race Donald(except La Garoupe hé hé!) I'm open to speak about slalom with you without trouble if you're agree.

Yes, the course on Sunday was surprisingly good, I liked it. Don't think I didn't like the course because I lost. I'm not a mean person.

And on your arguing that this reaction isn't appropriate for a euro marshal: You're right. The reaction was not appropriate. But you also have to understand the the Status Marshals did their best to coordinate all the events and make them as best as possible by making suggestions to event organizers that were based on their event experience. So how do you feel if you have to keep suggesting people that they should maybe change something (small) in order to make it better and more attractive for more racers?

Throughout the season I remember two events that did not follow the sanction recommendations. Nevertheless we decided (like Jani did last weekend - thank you Jani) to be mild and not pull the status away or do something else in order to put a penalty on them.

Don't think I'm not aware of what I did and that I wouldn't regret it and come to think about it. I do reflect upon my mistakes. So should others reflect upon our suggestions and recommendations. It's not very constructive to remain stubborn and uncriticizable.
Whenever I talked to you (Janis) this season, before the conversation we had different perspectives, but after listening to your opinions and reflecting upon them I was able to understand your point of view and always tried to find a good compromise in my thoughts in order to see the issue at hand the most objective as possible.

I'd like to gather all the different opinions and somehow find a good compromise. That's the way to go. Accept others opinions and combine them with your own. It's not easy but it's really worth trying it!

This is about your very childish behaviour and a flying helmet followed by a flying cone that was only like 30 cm away from causing injury on a spectator (a child!). Don't make me regret that you weren't DQ'd immediately, because that is what you deserved.

It wasn't meant as a joke. But rather an agreement that Pierre was right and I did something wrong and regret it. And it was also to explain my reaction because I still cannot understand the course specs for pros. Men, I won that race on my GS board!

However, I feel sorry that that happend. I dare say that I can best learn from mistakes. So this will remain an exception. I'm human after all and that makes me criticizable.

But on the other hand I would also like to see some folks aiming in the right direction, rather than remain uncritcizable. (e.g. course setting)

Grenoble was ready for wonderfull event with one of the best organisation ever. biger, smaler Posters and advertising all over the city, on the streets inside pizerias -every where.this was only some things which was posible to see even if you was not a skater.
Wether, wether- this is the thing which its not posible to change. wery pity about it, otherway im ksure there was posibilitie to be full stadion with spectators.
Thanks to Philip and all organisation krew for making big Job for this event in a long time.

Philippe Galindo and is crew show this years again that they are professional in event organisation (12 years organizing snowboard events). The weather should destroy all their work. It's a pity for the giant we must cancel. I think for Jani, Hans, JS and me, it's a pleasure to work for this event where we have nothing to do except looking after the race.
Thanks to all the riders who was present, pity for those who finaly renonce.
Grenoble really a great slalom skate event even under the rain!

Now one bad thing arrive on this race. I think we have to considerate the attitude of one racer.
Somebody in the public receive a cone with a lot of violence and another one just fall near the pc course. In praticly all the sport this bad attitude certainly disqualify the racer. Because of the surprise effect nothing arrive. But we can imagine what happen if a child receive this cone in his face. No sanctions, no excuses, nothing to anquiet the racer.... This must never happen again!

Great event in Grenoble. Organization was of a professional level like we'd like to see more often.
Despite the bad weather, everything worked well - we can only regret the cancellation of the Giant on a really promising spot because of the rain - but mother nature decide and we cannot change that anyway.
At least the the indoor spot was really good and particulary long. Probably the best "plan b" spot we never saw.

Good event including flatland definitely worth it in these conditions - but of course not too often on flat - it should stay an exception

The real deceiving thing is that many more riders were expected. It's really sad if polemics and negative buzz discourage some of them!

Thanks a lot for the organisation of this competition. I bet with some luck with the weater and some more rider's it would been one of the best competitions of this year. Saturday - Tight slalom

Grenoble had probably the best indoor backup venue so far. An enormous indoor market kind of hall. Probably 8 meters to the the semi transparent glass ceiling.

The organizers went through the effort of setting up a complete setup (barriers, big sound system, ramps, tables etc.

The racing got started kind of late, after everyone had had lunch (best race food so far!).

The high ligths of the day was the pro final, but also the am finals, and some of the races leading up to those two. There was some really interesting racing, and the competition was really fierce in the absolute top.

Robert Thiele was kind of unbeatable, but Michel Dupont was less than a cone away once the two final races had been added together. One cone less and the advantage would have turned to Michel. The Pro class will get new participants next season! Well, maybe three new: Gustavs took third this time.

Ramon was unbeatable too, but it very much looked like Janis was going to win the race for awhile. Janis is renewing his knee surgery in a few weeks and probably shouldn't be skating right now, but we're all pleased to see he does, because he always gives 100% when he's on his board. Pure power. Ramon had to take off his t-shirt and bib number to shave off 100's or 1000's to beat Janis. And it worked! Congratulations Ramon. Vincent Berruchon took third taking out Manuel Frei in the consolation round.

The race finished at 9.30 pm. it was a long day.
The cool thing was that the food crew was ready once again, with yet another meal for all the racers and we had a friendly get together in a large tent chatting about the day and all the wonderful things we could do to improve the sport, while the rain was sizzling down all around us.

Now we're back in the hotel and very much looking forward to a good night sleep.

Oh, I didn't mention that Team ConeRacing took home two gold medal this time: Sandrine Ferreira won the women's ahead of Joyce Wheldrake, and Christopher Dupont won the Juniors.

The producers of this event have gone to alot of trouble to make a nice event today. They have everything set up. Too bad about the rain. At 1 pm today we meet at the spot and get a ride over to where the indoors location will be. I am impressed so far as to the level of organization, and effort put in to this contest. Hello all,

2 more days and then it's happening! I hope you are all in good shape and looking forward to skating and competing.

Just wanted to tell you, that when there was the sanction application for this event, we (Dom, Peter, me) more or less knew what this event is all about. We were very pleased to see that the GS was gonna be on another venue than last year. We knew about the potential of this event, even though 2 out of 3 races are gonna be held in the flat. That's not bad since there are very good facilities like the stand for the spectators, the remarkably good surface or the experience of the organizers.

So what we intended is to sanction you a Main Status even though 2/3 of the races are on flat but expected that the courses would be set accurately according to the venue.

We all know that it's not a big deal. We gave you the Status with all the best intentions and confidence that it will be a good event.

I hope that we can be taken serious and respected for doing our job and we would like to do it for 2009 as well because we think we did a good job and we did it with pleasure.

Remember, Les spots of competitions:

***Seyssins: Also in one of the biggest streets of the city, the bitumen is new, for 700 meters giant slalom
(500 meters of Running) with a 10 to 13% slope, for the Saturday Morning race.

***Grenoble**’s Olympic Stadium*: the main site is in the Grenoble city downtown, in a municipal garden, with the mountains outlook …
It’s the Olympic Stadium of 1968 Olympic Games. The excellent bitumen track is 400 meters long, with a 3000 spectator’s bench.
Food and drink on the spot. Saturday evening tight finals will be nocturnal.

* Grenoble is near Switzerland, Italia, and at 3 hours from Paris in train.

* Airports: Grenoble Saint Geoirs at 35 minutes, Lyon Saint-Exupéry at 45 minutes and Geneva at 1h20.
