French riders did come to Tunnel race, would have loved to come to BBQ but had to cancel last minute, and are still coming to over 80 cones...Chris Hart wrote:oh wow.....

Why can a norm not be changed in order to make something better? We changed the norm at the Tunnel Race by charging a third (in case of Pro) and offering pretty much all the same things and I think everybody enjoyed the "high profile, high quality event".Jani Soderhall wrote:Chris,

On 10th of June I had already posted a question concerning entry fee. There was no reply until today:

Just to quote myself on a reply I made to Gustavs not turning Pro this season. I would really like to see him race pro and compete with/against him.
Ramón Königshausen wrote:Gustavs Gailitis wrote: Become a PRO during the season means bigger expenses already this year and pay more than 100 euros for just qualification runs and a t-shirt...
Ditto! Most races are too expensive!
Two weeks ago I paid 60 Euros for a freeride in Belgium. That included Camping, 2x meals per day, shuttle all day long, course marshalls, safety measurements such as haybales and showers.
Amateurs pay 50 Euros and they don't get camping, shuttles, haybales etc. which is a lot of work for organizers. It's very easy to set up a slalom race. I don't understand why all the races have such high entry fee. It doesn't really help to encourage newbes to the sport to participate with such high entry fees.
So also for you Gustavs, it's a matter of money and high entry fee. I bet if the Pros entry fee wasn't so expensive more ("sandbagging") amateurs would turn pro. But if you're a student like Gustavs or I was, you are really happy to even be able to go to an event that's far away. Gustavs is travelling all the way from Latvia only to pay €120 if he wants to race pro.
Just to compare, the Tunnel Slalom we put up cost €30 for Am and €35 for Pro. €10 of which we had to pay to the festival but every participant got a free ticket to use public transport on that day. So in fact the entry fee was only €20 for Am and €25 for Pro.
There was also prize money for women because they also deserve to get prize money.

no shit stirring intended
i understand chris and see what he means
i don't think this was meant as an offense and i see no whining either(chris is not the guy to whine!).
his point is just, given the current situation he is right about a few things(my oppinion, which is probably wrong too, again,as ever, who knows)
me,i think you can charge as much as you guys in grenoble do,but.......... then you have to drastically increase the prize money( i am referring to brixlegg f.e.)
you will see things different, that's ok so.
chris:you should have said that earlier though.
everybody have a supernice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris,
100E has been the norm Pro class in World Cup races since 2003 in Europe. It may be a little bit on the high side, but if it helps assure good events, I think it's worth it. It was originally meant to keep Am's away from the Pro class (I don't think that is valid any more), along with helping to finance the pro purse, or the event in general. As you know sponsors don't cough up that much money, even if they may be willing to help in many other ways. Cash is cash and as it's hard to get, and Pro's want it, this is one way to get some in.
Unfortunately the falling participation is putting these kind of high profile events at risk. Add to that the whining such as yours and we will soon have no more of these high profile, high quality events. You should enjoy them while they last. That cannot be measured in euros.
See you there, if you change your mind last minute. Hey, I'll throw in 50E just to see you race, especially in the GS!
/Jani

Free really good meal?
I have been there last year. We raced in a big hall couse it was raining the whole weekend.
To getting the lunch, we had to go back to the stadium to sit outside under a tent (it was cold and wet( remember Jani?)) and enjoy the "good" food.
Come on.......
What are your sponsers paying for?
this was over 80 cones for 20EUROS and a lot of public!!

this was slalombrunch fro FREE!! and a lot of fun.....
why was no bobody comming from France??? (maybe we have to say 100 EUROS starting fee only for the french riders and then you will show up..)

You can not compare these events, Riderz organize also free events, with gifts to win...
All the World Cup events cost at least 50€ for AM, 100€ for pros !
So the difference, with Grenoble you have a full package of the race, a lot of public, a mini ramp, three reals and good meals, and a tshirt.
In my opinion, Grenoble is cheaper than a lot of events, considering what it offers.
For me it's important to continue to do big events, with a lot of public and medias, as was the Trocadero, or Grenoble, alongside with more and cheaper events mostly for the riders.
Actually, we (Riderz) are planning to do another Trocadero next year, but seeing this kind of comments, i'm not as sure as before... And worst, I know it's the same for the organization of Grenoble...

Why is this race sooo expensive?
We made the Tunnel Race in Switzerland for about 45 CHF (30 Euros) , or the Airflow-Slalombrunch in Thalwil for all the racers commong outside from Switzerland for FREE!
Inclouding free camping ground, BBQ and Brunch at sunday morning (inclouding the race!!!).
There was 3000 CHF price money at the tunelrace!!!!
Are the racers paying the pricemoney??????????
You got such a lot "sponsors" on the webside!!!!!
I will not come to the Race like this, and also hope there will be a change in the mind of all organisers doing such a high starting fee.
Skateboarding should be fun!!!!!!!
sorry chris hart

Prague was your First race? Congratulations!!!
Yes, special and tight in this race will be on flat, but with A LOT OF spectators and fantastic organization!
Women category must grow because it is necessary also for sponsors and spectators and the best way how to do this is to bring girlfriends, wives, sisters, daughters etc. in slalom

You saw my "performance"? You mean my sad attempt at pumping on flat? haha. It was painful to watch that video because I am actually slowing down by the end. It was my first slalom race, and I found it a bit discouraging, but I guess I also learned a lot... I hear that this race is flat also? Too bad.Gustavs Gailitis wrote:That is great that Dasha (saw her performance in a video from Prague) will compete too - we need to develop women divisionMaybe next year we will also see my girlfriend in a slalom competition
It's so rad to see 5 girls registered! I was the only one in Prague, so it will be nice to have an actual womens category! Although we can definitely use some more recruits... get your girlfriend out to a race Gustavs!!

Well, we're having a big slide competition the same weekend here in Switzerland. (Remember when I was asking for dates last October?) So some of the guys (especially juniors) will be going there.
But Chris Hart and maybe Nastasja will come with us. Manuel Frei and some of the Guys from Grüningen too.

About the special it will be something as last year for amateur and maybe we ask 3 pros from 3 differents nations to put the pro one.
Giant will be long, large and fast... But I just see the slope under the rain last year and have actually no idea of the design of the course. Certainly something which will be like what you raced in Antibes but longer.
I'll try to make something interesting for all.
See you in Grenoble!

Also, what will be the distance for the straight slalom? 1.70 like last year?

I'm afraid it will be impossible for you to race the final of the special in the pro class, even if we start at five in the morning.
If you have to take plane à 4:30 in Lyon, may be you have to go at twelve! think about the trafic between Grenoble and Lyon! The only way would be to put pro the morning in place of am and it's really not a good thing for the organizers. Most of the public and officials from the city (you know, people who give money and autorizations) are coming to see the event in the afternoon. It's a pity. I'm sorry for you!
Enjoy giant and tight and expect you've time enought to run the special qualification.
Antonio are you racing in pro now?

The plane will leave at 4:30 ?
Considering tha the Grenoble Airport is at 30 minutes from the stadium, and that you will need to be at the airport in advance... this is really tough !
Is it possible for you to get a flight later ?
15 registered by now !

Did I read the bus schedule correct if it takes a little more than 1 hour to get to Lyon? I don't wanna use the only french I picked up in school at the airport (excuse moi je suis un petit retard).
I haven't been granted permission to leave from home yet, so chances of me actually showing up are small at this moment. But as usual I'm very eager to wiggle a little, even if I would end up in second, third or even 21:st place

Oh no, King Marcus is coming.
The schedule is called "Timing" if you move your cursor over "world cup skateboard slalom". Then you have to know a little French (which I do) and voilà you'll be able to plan a good "timing" between the award ceremony (getting your second place trophies
) and your flight.
I haven't had any success in finding the list of signed up racers either but I'm sure they'll put one up (or tell us where to find it) now that we've asked for it.

ah, good point Sam.
I did look into going to Lyons/Grenoble as I have an invite to Paul Bocuse's gaff. (Thats Gaff, not caff)
And having done the trek from Lyons to Grenoble then to Les Deux Alpes more than a few times I thought I was in a good position to answer.
As for directions to Hog Hill...simple. Go to London. Turn Right. Head for hill(s).
